Miesha Tate books UFC main event slot opposite Ketlen Vieira

Following her victory over Marion Reneau in her return to the Octagon, the UFC has booked Miesha Tate against top contender Ketlen Vieira. Combate first reported that Tate will fight Vieira in the main event of a UFC Fight Night card set for October 16. According to the report, Tate vs. Vieira has been verbally agreed to and is set to be the five-round headliner of the card. The fight was made possible after Vieira recently lost her fight against Sara McMann, who was forced to withdraw with an injury from their UFC Vegas 35 encounter, which opened her up to fighting Tate instead.

UFC middleweight contender Jared Cannonier says that there are only two options for his next appearance inside the Octagon. Cannonier defeated Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision in the main event of UFC Vegas 34 on Saturday night at the UFC Apex. For “The Killa Gorilla,” this was a huge win for the 37-year-old American to get back in the win column after losing a decision to Robert Whittaker in his last fight. Since moving down to middleweight a few years ago, Cannonier holds a 4-1 record at the weight class and is one of the top-five fighters now at 185lbs.

UFC middleweight contender Kelvin Gastelum issued a statement following his unanimous decision loss to Jared Cannonier at UFC Vegas 34. Gastelum went toe-to-toe with Cannonier for 25 minutes but lost 48-47 on all three of the judges’ scorecards at the end of the five rounds. The fight was extremely competitive throughout and it ultimately came down to how the judges scored the first round. Although fans on social media seemed split, all three of the judges scored the first round for Cannonier — as well as the third and fourth rounds — and gave Gastelum the second and fifth rounds, as “The Killa Gorilla” walked away with the unanimous decision victory.

The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 35 took place on Friday in Las Vegas, and 23 of the 24 fighters scheduled to compete made weight. The main event of UFC Vegas 34 features top-10 ranked middleweights Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum going at it for five rounds or less. Cannonier successfully weighed in on his first attempt on the scale, coming in at 185lbs. Gastelum, meanwhile, had an early scale scare as he weighed in at 186.25lbs on his first attempt on the scale. However, he was able to make it to 186lbs on his second attempt and the main event is still on.

Aldo and McGregor met in the main event of UFC 194 in December 2015, with McGregor knocking Aldo out in 13 seconds to become the new UFC 145lbs champion. In the years since then, we have heard some chatter about a potential rematch between these two, but if you ask the Brazilian, he has no interest in fighting the Irishman again. As far as Aldo is concerned, McGregor is fighting at 155 and 170lbs now, while Aldo is established at 135lbs. Speaking to MMAFighting.com’s Guilherme Cruz, Aldo shot down a McGregor rematch.
