UFC Vegas 34 Results: Jared Cannonier defeats Kelvin Gastelum (Highlights)

Tonight’s UFC Vegas 34 event is headlined by a key middleweight matchup between perennial contenders Jared Cannonier and Kelvin Gastelum.

Cannonier (13-5 MMA) will be looking to return to the win column this evening, this after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Robert Whittaker in his most recent effort. Prior to that setback, ‘The Killa Gorilla’ had put together a three-fight win streak, which included TKO victories over David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson.

Meanwhile, Kelvin Gastelum (16-7 MMA) will enter tonight’s UFC Vegas 34 headliner also looking to rebound from a recent loss to ‘The Reaper’. The former TUF 17 winner has gone 1-4 over his past five fights overall, with his lone win in that time coming against Ian Heinisch by way of decision.

Round one of the UFC Vegas 34 main event begins and Jared Cannonier comes forward with low kicks. Kelvin Gastelum looks to answer with his jab. Both fighters are utilizing a lot of feints. This has been all standup to start. Both fighters are landing good punches but it is Cannonier with the better volume. Gastelum with a low kick. ‘The Kill Gorilla’ returns fire with one of his own. Round two of the UFC Vegas 34 main event begins and Jared Cannonier cracks Kelvin Gastelum with a oair of jabs. ‘KG’ ducks in and lands a quick combo to the body. Gastelum with a left hook and then forces the clinch. Cannonier breaks free but eats a left hand on the exit.

Round three of the UFC Vegas 34 headliner begins and Jared Cannonier lands a clean right hook that drops Kelvin Gastelum. The former TUF 17 winner is back up but eats a head kick. Cannonier swarms ‘KG’ with punches. Kelvin’s chin is made of steel. He appears to have recovered. The middleweights stand and trade shots before the horn sounds to end round three.

Round four of the UFC Vegas 34 main event begins and Jared Cannonier comes out quickly. He backs Kelvin Gastelum up with a pair of straight punches and then forces the clinch. Gastelum with a right hook and then a low kick. Cannonier attempts to hook his way to the clinch. ‘KG’ rushes in and eats a big uppercut that sends him crashing to the canvas. Gastelum is back to his feet and the fighters trade jabs. We are going to a fifth and final round.

Round five of the UFC Vegas 34 main event begins and Jared Cannonier lands a hard right hand to get things started. Kelvin Gastelum is still moving around very well. His cardio has been on point in this one. Gastelum changes levels and gets in deep with a takedown, Cannonier defends well. ‘KG’ ducks under and maintains a waist-lock, but Cannonier stays calm and is able to break free. The fighters trade some more strikes before the horn sounds to end the fight.
