Mario Bautista was ecstatic when he got the call to fight Benito Lopez. After Bautista submitted Brian Kelleher back in June he wasn’t sure what would be next. Yet, when he got the call to face Lopez it did surprise him as Benito hasn’t fought since 2019. However, Bautista was excited about the matchup given the two were supposed to fight as amateurs in 2013.

Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang looks ready to earn back her gold. ‘Magnum’ has been out of action since her rematch with Joanna Jędrzejczyk in June. Their first outing two years prior was one of the greatest women’s MMA fights of all time. Zhang won that first bout by split decision, but wouldn’t need the judges in the second.

A new video has been revealed of the scuffle between Nate Diaz and Jake Paul’s teams on the weekend. Paul was set to headline a Showtime boxing pay-per-view against Anderson Silva in an intriguing bout. In attendance was Diaz to support his teammate Chris Avila boxing on the undercard. It also added more intrigue to the event as Diaz and Paul do not like one another and have taken shots at one another in hopes of fighting each other.

Their first encounter eight years prior was one-sided traffic. Esparza dominated and won by submission to become the first UFC women’s strawweight champion.

He ended up losing by first-round TKO and after the loss, he knew he needed to drop down to featherweight.

Dan Hooker still believes he can become the UFC’s lightweight champion. Hooker is set to return to lightweight at UFC 281 when he takes on Claudio Puelles. He’s looking to snap a two-fight losing skid and is coming off a TKO loss to Arnold Allen at featherweight. Although Hooker is 1-4 in his last five, ‘The Hangman’ is still confident in his skills and that he can make a title run. Part of the reason for that confidence is due to him having a full camp at City Kickboxing.

Rose Namajunas claims she got what she needed out of the Carla Esparza rematch. Namajunas (11-5 MMA) and Esparza (20-6 MMA) originally met in December of 2014 in the women’s strawweight main event. It was to be Esparza defeating Rose by submission at 1:26 of Round 3. Esparaza became the first strawweight champion in Ultimate Fighting Championship history.

Paulo Costa is nearing free agency. Prior to Costa’s UFC 278 fight against Luke Rockhold, he had said that he was fighting out his contract. However, he later corrected that as he shared that he still had one more fight left on his deal. Even though he was still under contract, Costa made it known he was not happy with his deal and planned on testing free agency.

Marina Rodriguez is expecting a fan-friendly fight as she prepares to headline UFC Vegas 64 against Amanda Lemos. Rodriguez is on a four-fight win streak and coming off a split-decision win over Yan Xiaonan in a very entertaining bout. Prior to that, she defeated Mackenzie Dern and Michelle Waterson in her first UFC main events. The bout against Dern earned her a ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus and she expects to get the same bonus again on Saturday against Lemos.
