Kamaru Usman’s first title defense is far from official. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ captured the UFC’s coveted welterweight strap this past March, defeating Tyron Woodley via unanimous decision. After Colby Covington beat Robbie Lawler in the main event of UFC Newark, UFC president, Dana White said “Chaos” was next for the title shot. Yet, that may not be the case anymore. According to Usman, Leon Edwards is a dark horse and could very well get the next title shot.

The former welterweight champion released this hip hop song on Youtube yesterday. “The Chosen One” has recently been exploring his music career. Earlier this year, he featured on a track by the Glacier Boyz and dropped bars with Wiz Khalifa. He even released a parody of the popular hit ‘Old Town Road’, where he took aim at Conor McGregor and Colby Covington.

Back in June, the two were set to fight at UFC Stockholm, but Latifi got hurt and was forced to pull out just days before the fight. The scrap was then re-booked for UFC Newark, but Visa issues from “No Time” postponed that a week to UFC Uruguay, which goes down this Saturday on ESPN+ (learn how to watch here).

Former UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping believes Lawler could have done a little better in the fight if he just let his hands go. “I was like, man, come on Robbie, throw something. ‘Cause Robbie’s an old-school guy, so I always cheer for those guys. But listen, I actually said to [my son] Callum, ‘It’s easier said than done.’ I’ve been in there with guys that try to take you down and it does prevent you from throwing shots – certainly when the person’s throwing back at you at a high volume rate,” Bisping said on his Believe You Me podcast (via MMA News).

Colby Covington is a vocal supporter of President Donald Trump. He’s often spotted in a Make America Great Again hat, frequently throws his support behind the president, and even visited him in the oval office last year. Yet according to a report from veteran MMA reporter Jeremy Botter, Covington didn’t vote for Trump in the last election. In fact, he didn’t vote for anybody. Botter came to this conclusion after checking voter registration records in the states where Covington has lived.

Last week, in a sit down interview with Laura Sanko, the UFC president announced that he, along with the organization, were “no longer in the Cris Cyborg business”, thus releasing her and giving their blessing to the former women’s featherweight champion to take her talents anywhere she wanted.

Cris Cyborg is no longer a member of the UFC after completing her contract and then being released by Dana White. With that, the possibility of the Amanda Nunes rematch seems unlikely. Many wanted that fight to happen, including UFC president, Dana White, both fighters and now Cyborg’s coach in Jason Parillo. He says that is the only fight that makes sense for the former featherweight champion. ‘JP’ added that no other opponent or fight is an exciting option for Cyborg.
