A new report says that metrics for UFC 246, which was headlined by Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone, indicate the event did equivalent to two million buys under the old system. Veteran MMA scribe Dave Meltzer said that McGregor vs. Cerrone would have done two million PPV buys under the old system, when PPVs were available on multiple platforms instead of just ESPN+. While McGregor has plenty of options for his next bout, it’s arguable the most compelling matchup available to him at present is streaking welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal. At this stage, Masvidal has undeniably earned a crack at UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was very impressed with Conor McGregor’s knockout win over Donal Cerrone at UFC 246. “The Last Stylebender” watched UFC 246 from his home in Auckland, New Zealand and had nothing but good things to say about the way McGregor demolished Cerrone. In particular, Adesanya says he was impressed with McGregor’s shoulder strikes near the beginning of the fight that badly hurt Cerrone, leading to a quick finish. Adesanya is one of the most creative strikers in the sport, so that’s quite a compliment for McGregor to hear.

McGregor was able to defeat Cerrone last Saturday night with the sort of emphatic performance that puts him right back into the mix for a title shot — whether it be at welterweight or lightweight. One person who was more than happy to give McGregor props in the aftermath of the fight was Cerrone’s grandmother, who actually went up to “The Notorious” and gave him a hug just seconds after he concluded his Octagon interview with Joe Rogan.
