Pennington was in attendance for UFC 289, which featured a UFC women’s bantamweight title fight between Nunes and Irene Aldana. Pennington witnessed ‘The Lioness” dominate Aldana for five rounds en route to a unanimous decision victory. After the fight, Nunes announced her retirement from pro MMA competition.

During the win streak, she also won the featherweight title and not many of those fights were all that competitive. With that, Pena believes fans started to not care about Nunes’ fights until she pulled off a submission win to become the new champ.

UFC president, Dana White took to Instagram to announce that Pena has suffered a broken rib and is out of their scheduled main event fight. In the main event of UFC 277 on Saturday in Dallas, Nunes dominated Pena over five rounds to reclaim her bantamweight title.
