Former UFC lightweight title challenger Donald Cerrone is willing to help save next month’s UFC 249 event by participating on the fight card. UFC 249 is slated to take place at a currently undisclosed location on April 18. The event is expected to be headlined by a highly anticipated lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson.

Gilbert Burns says Tyron Woodley is a liar for saying he accepted the fight against him to save UFC London. Originally, Woodley was set to fight Leon Edwards, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was moved to the States which forced Edwards off the card. Immediately, Burns offered to take the fight, but he says “The Chosen One” turned him down, despite the former champion saying on social media he did accept the bout.

Burns knocked out the Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Maia in brutal fashion in the first round of their co-main event attraction and immediately took the microphone afterwards, where he called out Covington to be his next opponent. Both men are Florida-based fighters and after beating the No. 6 ranked Maia, Burns will be able to say that he deserves a fight with the top-5 ranked Covington based on merit.

Burns dropped Maia with a brutal left hook and immediately celebrated, thinking the referee would step in and stop the fight. But the ref didn’t ump in immediately, making Burns have to go down to the mat and finish Maia off with nasty hammer fists. For Burns, it was hard for him to do that considering how much Maia means to young Brazilian jiu-jitsu grapplers such as him, but at the end of the day, he had to do his job.

Fan favorite Gunnar Nelson collided with Gilbert Burns in a welterweight bout at last weekend’s UFC Fight Night Copenhagen event. It marked the second time in a year that the Icelandic warrior had fought in Europe. Gunnar Nelson faced Leon Edwards at UFC London in March and left the Octagon with another loss and a broken orbital bone after receiving a nasty elbow. After healing from his injury and getting back to training, ‘Gunni’ was inked to fight Thiago Alves. However, Alves withdrew due to injury, leaving Gilbert Burns to fill in for the fight.
