After Poirier was knocked out by Justin Gaethje in a fight for the promotion’s BMF belt, ‘The Diamond’ wasn’t sure what would be next for him. He said he needed a fight that would get him out of bed in the morning, and he thought Rafael dos Anjos or another former champion made sense.

Bellator champion Johnny Eblen is claiming the UFC announced the ‘Poirier vs. Saint-Denis’ without ‘even a verbal agreement’ in place. It was UFC CEO Dana White who, on January 10th, made the announcement of Poirier (29-8 MMA) vs. Saint-Denis (13-1 MMA) in the co-main lightweight event at UFC 299 which takes place on March 9th at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

Back in January, UFC CEO Dana White announced that Poirier will face Saint-Denis in the co-main event of UFC 299, which will also be a five-round fight. It’s a highly-anticipated scrap and a massive fight for the lightweight division, but on Thursday morning, ‘The Diamond’ took to social media to claim the fight was off.

Saint-Denis is coming off a KO win over Matt Frevola and has been a proven finisher in his UFC career.

At UFC 294, Islam Makhachev was initially scheduled to defend his UFC lightweight championship against Charles Oliveira. Unfortunately, as a result of ‘Do Bronx’ suffering a nasty cut in training, he was forced to withdraw. Alexander Volkanovski replaced him on short notice and ultimately, came up short in a knockout defeat to the star from Dagestan.

Just a matter of hours ago, it was announced that Charles Oliveira has been pulled from his scheduled contest with Islam Makhachev at UFC 294. The two were set to take part in a rematch, with the UFC lightweight championship being on the line. Unfortunately, due to a nasty cut sustained by ‘Do Bronx’ in training, the fight is no longer going ahead.

Gaethje and Poirier first met in April 2018 when it was ‘The Diamond’ who won by fourth-round TKO in one of the best fights of the year. The two finally had their rematch back in July at UFC 291 for the BMF belt and it was Gaethje who got his revenge as he scored a second-round head kick KO.
