Dana White on questionable May-Mac trash talk: I don't know if you can cross a line

Tom Taylor - July 16, 2017

Over the course of their four-day, four-city press tour, Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor generated countless headlines. Unfortunately, a great many of those headlines were rooted in the controversial comments they made to one another, as McGregor was criticized for comments that were perceived as racist, and Mayweather found himself under fire for homophobic comments. Yet according to UFC President Dana White, who was on site during these press events, it’s possible that no lines were crossed. “What’s going on here is as much of a fight as the fight itself,” White told MMAjunkie prior to to the final press event in London. “Mayweather has yet to meet his match physically, or verbally, in these type of situations – until now. These guys are two of the best to ever do it. To say you cross a line leading up to a fight? They’re going to try to knock each other unconscious in about a month and a half. So, I don’t know if you can actually cross a line in this business.”

Dana White doesn't think Nick Diaz will ever fight again

bjpenndotcom - June 29, 2017

MMA veteran Nick Diaz has remained one of the most popular fighters in MMA despite the fact that he hasn’t fought in nearly three years. After his dominant run in Strikeforce, Diaz signed with the UFC and made his debut in 2011, when he defeated BJ Penn via unanimous decision. Diaz then dropped his next two fights, an interim welterweight scrap with Carlos Condit, and a unanimous decision to Georges St-Pierre for the welterweight title. In his most recent fight, Diaz stepped into the Octagon against Anderson Silva in a highly anticipated showdown which was eventually deemed a ‘no contest’ as a result of drug testing failures for both men. As it turns out, UFC President Dana White believes that very well may have been Diaz’ last fight. He spoke to MMAJunkie:

Last night, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 112 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, ranked UFC lightweights Kevin Lee and Michael Chiesa collided in an anticipated grudge match. This clash of grappling specialists was a fun one while it lasted. Unfortunately, the end of the fight was shadowed in controversy. As the seconds fell off the clock in the first round, Lee took Chiesa’s back and locked up a rear-naked choke. Though the choke looked deep, referee Mario Yamasaki stopped it before any tap actually occurred. This meant a win on Lee’s record, but one with a definite asterisk attached.

UFC to add sensors to gloves and shorts to produce real-time stats during broadcasts

Tom Taylor - June 19, 2017

Over the weekend, UFC President Dana White and WME boss Ari Emanuel touched down in Cannes, France, where they participated in the Lions International Festival of Creativity. During the festival, White and Emanuel announced some interesting, UFC-related news. Apparently, the promotion will be adding sensors to fight gloves, shorts, and to the surface of the Octagon itself in order to provide new, real-time statistics during fight broadcasts. The plan is to integrate these stats with the UFC’s powerful social media presence during broadcasts for an engaging, interactive experience. As you might expect, these sensors will shed light on how hard and fast strikes are thrown. The stats will also provide some context as to how much fighters improve their technique from fight to fight. This technology will be based on technology used in Major League Baseball.
