This Saturday, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring to battle undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight is tracking to be one of the biggest in combat sports history, and one that could smash all previous pay-per-view records. Former Strikeforce champ and current Bellator star Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal, however, will not be buying. The light heavyweight and occasional heavyweight explained why on a recent episode of MMAJunkie Radio. In his opinion, it’s too much of a mismatch in Mayweather’s favor to even warrant consideration. He’ll simply watch the highlights later.

When you’re a world famous celebrity, public image is important. You’ve got to be careful who you associate with. It’s for this reason that pop superstar Justin Bieber has reportedly dialled back his friendship with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. According to a report from TMZ, Bieber and his team, under the influence of a pastor at this church, were a little put off by Mayweather’s interest in strip clubs (the boxer owns a venue in Las Vegas called “Girl Collection”). They have decided to loosen ties with him as a result, just days ahead of his massive, boxing showdown with UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor.

Paulie Malignaggi said that Conor McGregor fights dirty and still has to learn about the difference between inside fighting used in boxing and in mixed martial arts. Floyd Mayweather even commented during his media conference call on Thursday regarding the short clips of McGregor and Malignaggi sparring and said that he saw some illegal shots being thrown by the UFC lightweight champion. However, come fight night, Mayweather said that he will do his job and worry about fighting while he will let the referee in the ring do his job and ref the fight.

Oh sh-t, did I just speak in the first person? I sure did, reader. I’ll break the fourth wall too, because rules don’t really matter. We live in a world where Conor McGregor, a guy who has never boxed before in his life, can fight Floyd Mayweather and they’ll convince you it’s a proper athletic contest. Hell, even the Nevada State Athletic Commission threw out all of their long-standing traditions and rubric because f-ck it, this is the biggest fight ever in the history of all human existence. So big in fact, that I had to use the startling opening theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey in my latest episode in order to give it some gravitas, or balls, whichever you prefer.

The world has stopped so Conor McGregor can box Floyd Mayweather. It wouldn’t be surprising if the laws of physics themselves start to disintegrate. UFC events have been put on hold until after the boxing match, fighters are being asked to submit their prediction videos to be proliferated through social media, the Nevada State Athletic Commission even threw out their rules, what else does Mayweather/McGregor have in store for us? A big budget music video, that’s what. Former two-weight boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi has been a common name seen in the media headlines recently. The reasons being Malignaggi’s boxing career tethered to his controversial experience in Conor McGregor’s training camp for his mega-million dollar fight against Floyd Mayweather. Malignaggi is no longer helping with McGregor’s training camp as he removed himself after they had a fallout when less than flattering photos of Malignaggi were released from their sparring session. However, Malignaggi’s insight of what he experienced during the training camp is something the media and fans can’t get enough of.

It comes as no surprise to former IBO and IBF welterweight boxing champion Chris van Heerden that Paulie Malignaggi and Conor McGregor’s relationship ended on a sour note. Van Heerden also helped McGregor out with some sparring for his rematch with Nate Diaz and was at the punching end of an edited video clip that made its way to the Internet. Van Heerden told MMAJunkie Radio that he spoke with Malignaggi before joining the training camp and Malignaggi went in with good intentions.

Since the announcement of Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather, the gears have been turning and steam blowing out of everyone’s hard drives. You could waste an entire year of your life perusing through all the hot takes involving this freak show boxing bout. Anyone can waste their time debating a faceless avatar on Twitter on the nuances of upcoming fight, but some put their time to good use. An R/MMA user on Reddit named Trap_City_Bitch analyzed the stats through the last 10 of Mayweather’s fights, resulting in some simply intimidating numbers.

As the spectacle of Conor McGregor boxing Floyd Mayweather draws near, the media parade heats up. Mayweather is fresh from his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live to talk about the fight and said some interesting things. Despite talks of the fight not selling as well as people thought, Mayweather says it’s on track to beat the numbers his fight with Manny Pacquiao generated. As far as McGregor, Mayweather is so confident he will win that he guaranteed Kimmel he would pay back his bet if he lost. It will be interesting to see where the lines shift with the announcement of their fight’s glove change. “Whatever you bet [on me], and if you don’t win, I’l give it back to you. You’ve got my word.”

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is a circus show with many rides and many moving pieces. The latest merry-go-round is the contested glove size. Originally, the glove size was set at 10oz because all boxing bouts contested at 154lbs wear that size. Floyd Mayweather, whose last six fights were fought wearing the smaller gloves, brought up the exception to box McGregor with 8 gloves on social media. There was a long debate on every aspect of the glove change. However, in the end the rules or previous boxing history didn’t matter. The commissioner of the NAC, even though he was pissed off about feeling this was the center of a ploy to garner sales, finally decided he would allow a one-time use of 8oz gloves. Marnell: I do not like the NSAC being used as a pawn in a social media battle. It pisses me off.

Don’t worry guys, Conor McGregor will fight Floyd Mayweather in a couple of weeks and we can put this whole thing to rest. Well, until McGregor decides to give Paul Malignaggi and himself a mutual red panty night in the boxing ring. One of the latest things to swirl around in the chaotic either besides those wild knockdown clip takes, is the possibility that there will be a change in glove size for the May/Mac bout. The parties involved are supposed to meet tomorrow to see if the gloves will be 10oz or reduced to 8oz, but the Association of Ringside physicians caution against it. It’s no secret what the public thinks of Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather’s boxing match. They’ll tell you every minute of every day on a myriad of social platforms. Some are fervently arguing McGregor’s power is just too mutant, others clap back with the fact that the best boxers on our planet couldn’t beat Mayweather, so how will McGregor do it? As with any war or conflict, some people just choose to remain conscientious observers. Surprisingly, the same goes for UFC fighters. The folks at MMA Crazy TV put together a collection of fighter prediction and some of them said some very interesting things. Most of them agree though, that it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Conor McGregor beats Mayweather. “Floyd’s not just a better boxer, but a smarter fighter, and he’s a championship level fighter. He’s obviously the better boxer, we look at it and we can see he’s the better boxer. But sometimes, being better isn’t enough, because Conor will hit him with some unpredictable stuff. Floyd’s never fought a switch stance fighter before, I think Conor sees that. Floyd’s never fought someone who can handle the clinch like that. Floyd’s fought power hitters before, but he’s never fought somebody with that type of movement, even that type of stance.
