This Saturday, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring to battle undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. The fight is tracking to be one of the biggest in combat sports history, and one that could smash all previous pay-per-view records. Former Strikeforce champ and current Bellator star Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal, however, will not be buying.
The light heavyweight and occasional heavyweight explained why on a recent episode of MMAJunkie Radio. In his opinion, it’s too much of a mismatch in Mayweather’s favor to even warrant consideration. He’ll simply watch the highlights later.
“Me, I’ll wait to watch it on Facebook,” King Mo said. “I’m not going to pay $100 to watch a guy make his pro debut versus a guy that’s 49-0, looking for his 50th win – a five-time world champion, a guy that’s a bronze medalist in the Olympics that should have won gold, a guy that’s been boxing his whole life, comes from a family of boxers. I’m not going to watch that mismatch.”
King Mo has trained at Mayweather Boxing Club in the past, but went on to assure that his confidence in a Mayweather win is not due to any kind of loyalty or bias.
“[McGregor] boxed for the early part of his life, and then he went to MMA,” he explained. “The moment you leave what you’re doing and go into a different sport, your whole game, your level changes on that.”
“It’s like wrestling. I can’t go back and wrestle these guys at the U.S. Open. I’d get smashed because I have not wrestled at that level [in so long].”
The Bellator star then went all-in on his prediction:
“[Mayweather] is going to go out there, walk Conor down behind his high guard, and just beat him up. It’s a mismatch, just like when James Toney fought Randy Couture: mismatch. It is what it is.”
Will you be buying the Mayweather vs. McGregor pay-per-view, or are you with King Mo on this one?
