The Octagon returns to Abu Dhabi for today’s UFC 294 event, a thirteen-bout fight card headlined by Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski 2. Makhachev (24-1 MMA) will be returning to action for the first time since scoring a highly debated unanimous decision victory over Volkanovski this past February at UFC 284. Prior to that, the Russian standout had earned a submission win over Charles Oliveira to capture the promotion’s vacant lightweight title at UFC 280.

Khamzat Chimaev is casting doubt on his fight with Kamaru Usman actually being a title eliminator bout. UFC 294 will see the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev (12-0 MMA) going up against Kamaru Usman (20-3 MMA) tomorrow, Saturday, October 21st, at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The co-main event will see ‘Borz’ and ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ in a middleweight bout.

Francis Ngannou seemingly got a laugh out of Kamaru Usman’s appearance on UFC Embedded this week. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is set to return to the cage opposite Khamzat Chimaev this Saturday. For Kamaru Usman, he enters his middleweight debut riding a two-fight losing streak to Leon Edwards. Still, the former champion is confident that he can upset ‘Borz’ and get a rematch with Sean Strickland.

Michael ‘Venom’ Page might end up heading to the UFC after all, based on a recent photo with Dana White. The former Bellator title challenger has been out of the cage since a knockout win over Goiti Yamaguchi in March. That was a nice rebound win for Michael Venom Page, having suffered a split-decision loss to Logan Storley last August. That was the British fighter’s first attempt at gold, but likely won’t be the last.

Chimaev was supposed to fight Paulo Costa on the card, but an infection to the Brazilian’s elbow forced him to be pulled from the scrap. On 11 days’ notice, Kamaru Usman stepped up to face Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 in a highly-anticipated matchup. The stakes also got higher as UFC CEO Dana White announced the winner would get the next middleweight title shot.

Volkanovski stepped up on 11 days’ notice to rematch Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title in the main event of UFC 294. The two fought back in February, and it was Makhachev who won a very competitive decision to remain the lightweight champ.

Sean Strickland reportedly turned down an offer to defend his middleweight title against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294. It was originally to have been Khamzat Chimaev (12-0 MMA) vs. Paulo Costa (14-2 MMA) at UFC 294. Costa had to withdraw due to a serious staph infection.
