Michael Johnson among fighters added to UFC cards on May 13 and May 16

Veteran UFC lightweight Michael Johnson is among the new fighters who have been added to the upcoming cards on May 13 and May 16 in Jacksonville, Florida. Two weeks ago, UFC president Dana White revealed the promotion’s plan to go ahead with three cards on May 9, 13, and 16 in Jacksonville. The UFC has been trying for weeks to get its show back on the road despite the coronavirus pandemic, and very soon the Octagon will touch down in sunny Florida. Since the cards were announced, a number of new fights have been trickling out in the media, and now we have some more for both cards.

American Top Team coach Conan Silveira says the reason Amanda Nunes can’t fight at UFC 249 is due to an ankle injury she suffered in training. The UFC women’s featherweight champion Nunes recently withdrew from a scheduled title fight against Felicia Spencer at the newly-revamped UFC 249 card on May 9 in Jacksonville, Florida. The two were previously scheduled for the canceled UFC 250 card set for Sao Paulo, and UFC president Dana White was hoping to re-book the fight as the third title fight on the new, stacked UFC 249 card.

Leon Edwards can’t make sense of why his scheduled opponent for UFC London, Tyron Woodley, is calling out everyone except him. “Rocky” recently slammed the “clout-chasing” star for his callouts and believes he is “just lost”. On March 21, the British welterweight was expected to headline the UFC event in his home country in London. His adversary would be none other than the former welterweight champion Woodley. However, due to the threat of coronavirus, the event was canceled.

Luke Rockhold seems to have accepted Michael Bisping’s invitation to squash their beef and share a beer one day. At one point, Bisping and Rockhold were two of the most bitter rivals in MMA. The pair went 1-1 across two bouts, with Rockhold winning the first by submission and Bisping winning the second — a short-notice title opportunity — by knockout. In the lead-up to and fallout of these bouts, the pair exchanged tons of trash talk and clearly got under each other’s skin.

A number of new matchups have been added to the upcoming UFC Fight Night card on May 16, including the return of middleweight Eryk Anders. UFC president Dana White recently announced three cards in Jacksonville, Florida, and now the matchups are trickling out. Last week it was revealed the main event of the card will be a five-round heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Walt Harris. This fight was re-booked from its original spot at UFC Portland, and several of the other fights added to this event are also re-bookings from other cards that were canceled.

Santana, who lives with her mother, six siblings, and daughter in the Cidade de Deus (City of God) favela in Rio de Janeiro, recently told Brazilian publication Combate that she has been struggling to keep food on the table during the pandemic, as neither she nor her family members have been able to work.

Next up will be a currently unnamed card on Wednesday, May 13, followed my another unnamed card on Saturday, May 16.
