Vera entered the cage with O’Malley, who had never been beaten as a pro mixed martial artist, as a significant betting underdog. Despite being given little credit by the bookmakers, he capitalized on an apparent O’Malley leg injury to finish his foe with a torrent of first-round ground-and-pound.

A rematch between light heavyweights Shogun Rua and Paul Craig has been booked to take place at this November’s UFC 255 event. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani was the first to report the news the UFC is targeting the rematch between Shogun and Craig for UFC 255, which takes place on November 21 at a location that is still to be determined. The card is expected to be headlined by UFC flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt, with a co-main event between UFC women’s’ flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko and Jennifer Maia.

Former UFC star Paige VanZant and her manager Malki Kawa have opened up on her new deal with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC). Speaking to MMA Fighting, Kawa, the man behind First Round Management, divulged that the deal has a multi-million dollar price tag.

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is willing to give Conor McGregor a rematch if the Irish MMA star gets by Dustin Poirier. Nurmagomedov and McGregor fought in 2018, in the main event of UFC 229, which went down as the most successful pay-per-view in the organization’s history. In that fight Nurmagomedov defended his title against McGregor with a fourth-round submission victory.

UFC legend Anderson Silva says a 170lbs matchup against Conor McGregor fell through and he now wants Anthony Pettis at 185lbs instead. Silva and McGregor seemed to have agreed to a catchweight bout on social media a few months ago, but nothing came out it and Silva turned his attention to Pettis instead. Silva and Pettis went back-and-forth on social media a few months ago about a potential matchup between the two future UFC Hall of Famers, but UFC president Dana White quickly shot it down. That hasn’t stopped both men from continuing to display interest in the matchup, with Pettis reaching revealing he has been busy during quarantine watching fight tape on “The Spider” in anticipation of a potential bout between the two strikers.

News leaked on Monday that the UFC is planning on a key light heavyweight matchup between Reyes and Jan Blachowicz to take place on September 26 at UFC 253. When that news leaked, it became clear that we would soon be hearing news about Jones’ future. Not too long afterward, Jones took to social media to announce that he had a phone call with the UFC on Monday where he agreed to vacate the UFC light heavyweight title.

Despite never making the cut down to 125 in his UFC career, Garbrandt skipped ahead of the rest of the contenders in the flyweight division to get the next title shot against Figueiredo. The fight is expected to headline UFC 255 on November 21, with a planned co-main event between Valentina Shevchenko and Jennifer Maia for the women’s flyweight belt.

Former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight Daniel Cormier has issued a heartfelt retirement statement after competing in his final fight at UFC 252 last Saturday. In the UFC 252 main event, Cormier lost a close decision to reigning UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. The bout marked the third time the two legends had shared the Octagon together, with Cormier winning the first fight by first-round knockout, and Miocic winning their second by fourth-round TKO.
