Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has fought current UFC featherweight champ Max Holloway and top featherweight contender Alexander Volkanovski. As such, he has unique insight into the pair’s upcoming featherweight title fight, which is scheduled for the co-main event of UFC 245 on December 14. Aldo believes that, when the cage door closes on Holloway and Volkanovski on December 14, the champion will probably retain his title due to his size, skill and durability. That said, he acknowledges Volkanovski could win the fight.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has only experienced a handful of losses over the course of his legendary career. Not all of those losses stung the same. Speaking to MMA Fighting ahead of his UFC 245 battle with Marlon Moraes, which will mark his bantamweight debut, Aldo divulged that his early 2019 decision loss to Alexander Volkanovski, which occurred in his native Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, “hurt a lot more” than his infamous, 13-second knockout loss to Conor McGregor in 2015.

In the UFC 245 main event, the current welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, will look to defend his title for the first time against Colby Covington. “The Nigerian Nightmare” claimed the belt from Tyron Woodley in their UFC 235 bout by unanimous decision. Likewise, Covington has been riding high on an impressive streak victories. Most recently, “Chaos” dominated former welterweight champion Robbie Lawler throughout five rounds to take the unanimous decision victory.

Now, the challenger has given his thoughts on the fight in the first interview since the bout was announced. Speaking to EMG Access, Volkanovski sounded extremely confident that he will get his hand raised against Holloway. Not only does Volkanovski believe he will win in impressive fashion, he’s already talking about giving Holloway his rematch once he wins.

Gadiel Notelovitz was first to report the news, suggesting that a featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Alex Volkanovski was being discussed for December’s UFC 245 event.

Many fans were hoping to see Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski get the opportunity to challenge Max Holloway for the UFC featherweight title at UFC 243 this October in Melbourne, Australia. Unfortunately, UFC President Dana White says that won’t be happen. The UFC boss shared this unfortunate news on Submission Radio. He explained that Max Holloway, who just fought at UFC 240 in late July, will be unable to make the featherweight limit in time for the October card in Melbourne.

Max Holloway successfully defended the UFC featherweight title with a unanimous decision win at UFC 240, but his opponent Frankie Edgar didn’t make it particularly easy for him. Alex Volkanovski, the man widely expected to get the next crack at Holloway, was cage-side for the fight, and says he scored it more closely than the judges did. “I actually thought that was a really close,” Volkanovski told MMA Fighting. “Sitting on the sidelines there, I thought it was a bit closer than what the judges scored, 50-45. I thought Frankie might have won some rounds. Definitely competitive I thought.”

The UFC is protecting itself in case of a weigh-in mishap or last-second injury to the main event of Saturday’s UFC 240. Top featherweight contender Alexander Volkanovski is in Edmonton and on emergency standby in case something happens to headliners Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar at the official weigh-ins. Volkanovski is expected to weigh in and would jump in to fight in an emergency situation. TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter broke the news.

Yesterday afternoon, news surfaced that the UFC is targeting a featherweight title fight between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar for UFC 240 in July. The widespread reaction to this news is that top featherweight contender Alex Volkanovski, who just defeated Jose Aldo at UFC 237, is being snubbed. As it turns out, this is probably the least of the Australian’s contenders worries at present.
