UFC Rankings update: Jiri Prochazka debuts on P4P list, Glover Teixeira slides seven spots

Following UFC 275, there have been major changes in the UFC rankings this week. Jiri Prochazka (29-3 MMA) has made his debut on the UFC P4P rankings list, coming in at # 11. This of course follows his victory over Glover Teixeira (33-8 MMA) last Saturday night in Kallang, Singapore. It was in round five, with only 28 seconds left on the clock that Prochazka finished Teixeira via rear-naked choke, becoming the Czech Republic’s first ever UFC champion.

Kyle Daukaus figured he would be fighting Julian Marquez next. Daukaus and Marquez were originally booked to fight on February 19, but Marquez was forced to withdraw and Jamie Pickett stepped up. Daukaus ended up winning by first-round submission and after the victory, he figured he would be rebooked against Marquez. Instead, he was booked against Dolidze, who he was supposed to face last November.

Jiri Prochazka is claiming that Jan Blachowicz got ‘a little bit aggressive’ during their cageside confrontation at UFC 275. It was Jiri Prochazka (29-3 MMA) vs Glover Teixeira (33-8 MMA) in the light heavyweight main event this past weekend at UFC 275. The result was a win for Prochazka, and his equally impressive 13th win in a row in the Octagon.

Teddy Atlas has compared Glover Teixeira vs Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275 to the iconic Thrilla in Manila showdown. Last Saturday night at UFC 275, Jiri Prochazka submitted Glover Teixeira in the fifth round to capture the UFC light heavyweight title in an all-time classic. These two warriors went back and forth at one another for the better part of 25 minutes and in the end, it was the young challenger that came out on top.

Throughout the course of his run at 205 pounds, Jon Jones was able to accomplish some pretty incredible things. In addition to being a two-time champion, he also successfully defended the title 11 times and has never lost a title fight in his career.

Sean O’Malley believes Dominick Cruz will defeat Marlon Vera in August. Cruz and Vera are set to headline a Fight Night card on August 13 in San Diego in a crucial fight for the bantamweight division. The winner could very well get a title shot and for O’Malley, who fought Vera, he believes Cruz is just too skilled for ‘Chito.’

Aljamain Sterling believes Jiri Prochazka is playing a dangerous game with the way he fights. Prochazka became the new UFC light heavyweight champion at UFC 275 when he submitted Glover Teixeira in the fifth round. It was a back-and-forth fight and although Prochazka got his hand raised, Sterling thinks the Czech Republic native is playing Russian roulette with the way he fights.

Chael Sonnen believes that former dual-weight champion Conor McGregor not fighting until 2023 is a good thing. The Irishman has been out of action since his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier last July at UFC 264. That trilogy bout ended up being a disastrous night for McGregor, as he lost via TKO due to injury. The former champion broke his leg in the closing seconds of round one.

UFC bantamweight title contenders Jose Aldo and Merab Dvalishvili could have a date in the near future. The UFC’s 135-pound division is a weight class stacked with contenders. The champion Aljamain Sterling is fresh off a victory over Petr Yan in April at UFC 273. Following the victory, ‘Funk Master’ was rumored for a matchup with either T.J. Dillashaw or Jose Aldo.
