Dana White confirms Jennifer Maia is next for UFC flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko

UFC president Dana White confirmed that Jennifer Maia is next in line to fight UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko. Maia picked up the biggest win of her UFC career to date when she tapped out Joanne Calderwood with a first-round armbar at UFC Vegas 5. The victory improved Maia to 3-2 overall in the UFC, with previous victories over Roxanne Modafferi and Alexis Davis. By beating Calderwood, who was next in line to fight Shevchenko before taking this short-notice fight, Maia has elevated herself to an elite position at women’s 125lbs.
Dana White confirms fighters involved in cancelations at UFC Vegas 5 will not receive show money

UFC president Dana White confirmed that the six fighters who were involved in last-minute cancellations at UFC Vegas 5 will not be paid their show money. A planned light heavyweight bout between Ed Herman and Gerald Meerschaert was canceled earlier in the day on Saturday after Meerschaert tested positive for COVID-19. Later on in the night, a middleweight bout between Kevin Holland and Trevin Giles was scrapped after Giles fainted backstage while walking to the Octagon.
Edmen Shahbazyan issues statement following loss to Derek Brunson at UFC Vegas 5

UFC middleweight prospect Edmen Shahbazyan has released a statement following his third-round TKO loss to Derek Brunson at UFC Vegas 5. Shahbazyan’s first UFC main event did not go as planned. After a strong start in the first round, the 22-year-old Californian began to fade badly in the second round. Brunson turned on the gas and hurt Shahbazyan, nearly finishing him with ground and pound just before the end of the second round. The fight somehow was allowed to enter the third round, but referee Herb Dean decided he had finally seen enough and stopped the fight early in the third and final round after Shahbazyan ate a few more big shots.

Back in July, footage surfaced that seemed to show ‘Platinum’ getting violent with a number of individuals at a restaurant in Texas. The end result was Perry knocking a man unconscious.
