UFC welterweight contender Stephen Thompson says he sees “no need” for UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov to fight again. Nurmagomedov has been in a quasi-retirement ever since submitting Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Following that victory, “The Eagle” announced plans to hang up his gloves. However, UFC president Dana White has been trying his best over the last few months to coax Nurmagomedov into one more fight. The champ has said that he wants to see what happens at UFC 257 with all the top lightweights fighting on that card, and right now he’s made no final decision.

UFC President Dana White says the upcoming UFC 257 pay-per-view is trending to be a “great” success, and that he expects it to over perform. UFC 257 goes this Saturday on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. The card will be headlined by a lightweight rematch between the UFC’s biggest star, Conor McGregor, and the division’s No. 2 contender Dustin Poirier.

UFC lightweight contender Dustin Poirier explained how his newfound “superpower” will help him beat Conor McGregor this weekend at UFC 257. Poirier will need to put it all together if he wants to beat McGregor in the main event of UFC 257. “The Diamond” enters the bout as a considerable underdog, which makes sense considering what happened when they first met back at UFC 178 when McGregor knocked him out in the first round. But six-plus years later, this is a very different fight. Poirier is a much better fighter than he once was and we’ve seen that in his recent outings. Plus, he now has a superpower.

Heading into the fight, Poirier is a +250 underdog while the Irishman is a -325 favorite. Ahead of the fight, BJPENN.com reached out to several pro fighters to get their prediction for the scrap. The slight majority believe it will be Conor McGregor winning again and likely doing so by knockout.

UFC welterweight Mounir Lazzez released a statement following a brutal body kick TKO loss to Warlley Alves at UFC Fight Island 8. Lazzez was one of the big stars of the UFC’s first trip to Fight Island last summer. As a big underdog, “The Sniper” stormed into the Octagon and in his promotional debut took out Abdul Razak Alhassan via unanimous decision. It was a fantastic performance by Lazzez that earned him a share of “Fight of the Night” and there was a lot of hype behind him heading into his second UFC fight against Alves. Unfortunately for Lazzez, things did not go as planned.

UFC welterweight contender Michael Chiesa issued a statement following his dominant decision win over Neil Magny at UFC Fight Island 8. Chiesa looked incredible against Magny as he improved to a perfect 4-0 since moving up to welterweight in 2018. Chiesa was able to drag Magny down to the mat at will, and on the ground, he was able to maintain dominant positional control. He was also quite successful on the feet, as well, leading to an overall very dominant performance by Chiesa. It’s the kind of win that should earn him a top-five opponent in the UFC welterweight division.

Former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor has dismissed the lawsuit filed against him this week as “old news,” and denied any wrongdoing with respect to the case. Earlier this week, The Independent reported that a woman had filed a multimillion dollar personal injury lawsuit against McGregor and one of his associates, stemming from a 2018 incident.

Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar have nothing but respect for one another after their recent Fight of the Night winning war. Holloway, the former UFC featherweight champ, and Kattar, the division’s No. 6 contender, met in the main event of UFC on ABC 1 last weekend. Holloway was the picture of dominance in the fight, landing north of 400 strikes over five rounds, but Kattar’s toughness kept him upright until the final bell, and resulted in both men earning $50,000 post-fight bonuses.
