PHOTOS | The Art Inspired By Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather
Justin Golightly - August 26, 2017
For a long time, there have been countless articles written about Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather. Thousands and thousands of words, maybe even millions of words during the build-up just on this site alone. You’ve heard the opinions and predictions of UFC fighters, boxers, promoters, or talk show hosts. The old cliche is that a picture is worth a thousand words, if that’s true, then that must mean the works of art surrounding May/Mac are worth billions. Either on the internet produced in Photoshop, slathered on a canvas in a studio in Brooklyn, or spray painted on a rolling Irish hillside, artists have created impressive works inspired by this giant fight. Here’s a collection of some of the best or most interesting. Today is the day @FloydMayweather V @TheNotoriousMMA #MayweathervMcgregor @ShowtimeBoxing pic.twitter.com/jtHWnJO0yt
Conor McGregor Completely Changed His Physiology for Fight With Mayweather
Justin Golightly - August 26, 2017
Do you remember Rocky IV? It had some legendary training sequences. Sylvester Stallone grew a beard and he depicted Rocky going back to savage basics. He ran through snow, pushed plows, jerked on ropes, he had to get primal to fight his opponent. All this was set up to juxtapose Ivan Drago in a state-of-the-art facility, with cords hooked up to him while he was attached to lifting machines. Doctors were even there recording every result and change in his body. That’s kind of what Conor McGregor was doing down at the UFC Performance Institute to push himself to the next level in preparation for Floyd Mayweather. “It’s kind of common knowledge through social media and things like that, Conor has used our altitude chamber extensively. Ultimately what he’s trying to do is change his physiology somewhat. If you look at the work-rest ratio of boxing, it’s about 3-to-1. If you look at the work-rest ratio of a UFC fight, it’s about 1-to-4. It completely flips the physiology on its head, right? Which means Conor has kind of adapted his physiology to 12, three-minute rounds rather than five, five-minute rounds.” — UFC Performance Institute vice president of performance Duncan French speaking to MMA Fighting.
Ronda Rousey is Getting Married Tonight for Mayweather vs McGregor
Justin Golightly - August 26, 2017
Have we stepped into some alternate dimension? Did Conor McGregor pierce through the space time continuum when he knocked out Jose Aldo with that mutant left hand of his? Once this whole boxing Floyd Mayweather thing happened, we should have known something was up. If this was a movie, it couldn’t have been written any better, that’s because the script would be so ridiculous that no company would green light it: Paul Malignaggi trying to fight McGregor and flipping out on fans, Demi Lovato, Mayweather rollerskating, green and yellow popcorn!? To put the icing on the cake, Ronda Rousey is getting married. Today. Tonight. During the money fight. White: Ronda Rousey, Travis Browne are getting married same day as Mayweather vs. McGregor https://t.co/8M36duSBsE pic.twitter.com/WnWf4hkZkH
Francis Ngannou Calls Out UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic
Justin Golightly - August 26, 2017
You have to feel for Francis Ngannou. He’s a young beast lighting up the heavyweight division, he just got the biggest opportunity of his life fighting Junior dos Santos, and it was all taken away from him through no fault of his own. He didn’t just sit around feeling bad for himself, he called out Alistair freakin’ Overeem. Unfortunately, even he wasn’t available to fight Ngannou. Looking around the top, there’s no one else. So, why not shoot for the stars? Francis Ngannou just called out the champ, Stipe Miocic. Alistair said his foot is still injured and can’t fight as soon ! so I don’t have a replacement for #UFC215

Russell Ess - August 25, 2017
What many expect to be the richest fight in the history of combat sports is taking place on Saturday night as Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are set to meet in the boxing ring. The fight for the “Money Belt” will generate millions of dollars from the live event and pay-per-view sales. While Mayweather and McGregor will be makings their millions for their time spent in the boxing ring, ticket brokers who were expecting to make a killing based on the expectations and hype of the event on the secondary ticket sales market are apparently in a deep hole that will surely take some time to get out of.
BREAKING | Tyron Woodley Threatens to Move Up For a Middleweight Title Shot
Justin Golightly - August 25, 2017
Tyron Woodley just quietly tried to steal the fire from Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather for fight week. He is fresh off his UFC 214 win where he shut down Demian Maia, who has just been choking anyone he wanted until then. Before that, he derailed the Stephen Thompson hype train not once, but twice, and he was being groomed to become the next exciting UFC welterweight champion. So, who’s next for Woodley? That’s a harder question than you think. Besides a rematch with Robbie Lawler who he took the belt from via a startling first round KO, or fighting the guy who just got beat by Maia, there isn’t much left for Tyron Woodley. That’s why he just told Ariel Helwani that his future may be in the next weight division. The champ @TWooodley is here. #themmahour https://t.co/1p8tiduAag pic.twitter.com/EutXpUk0gx
PHOTO | They Are Serving Some Weird Food at Mayweather vs McGregor
Justin Golightly - August 25, 2017
We all knew Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather was going to be a weird and strange event, but we had no idea it would get to this ridiculous state. If the fight itself wasn’t bizarre enough that its even happening, all of this might result in McGregor fighting Paul Malignaggi all from a sparring session. The Killers are involved, Demi Lovato is singing the National Anthem, will Justin Bieber or Nate Diaz walk out Mayweather? Who knows. What we do know, is that they gimmicked this fight to the extreme. Take this for example: Green and gold popcorn that cost eight bucks. That’s even more than egregious movie theater prices. Here Are The Betting Odds For Conor McGregor's Next Opponent
Justin Golightly - August 25, 2017
Conor McGregor hasn’t stepped through the ropes of the boxing ring yet to box Floyd Mayweather and we’re already talking about his next fight. However, this is all par of the course when a guy like McGregor has a bout coming up. Paul Malignaggi managed to get wrapped up in the fight build-up and eventually made it known he intended on fighting McGregor. Artem Lobov was quick to silence that, of course it doesn’t mean it won’t happen. Back in the UFC, McGregor dropped hints that his next fight would be with Nate Diaz to finish out the trilogy. We know with Conor, nothing can be that simple though, so do the bookeepers. Betway just dropped the odds on who the Champ Champ could fight next.
Tony Ferguson Says McGregor Will Return to Fight the 'Wrong Mexican'
Justin Golightly - August 25, 2017
Conor McGregor has already dropped some major hints at his next fight. He’s put his foot down time and time again saying he fully intends to fight in the UFC at the end of the year, where all signs point to a trilogy fight with none other than Nate Diaz. Both his previous fights with Diaz weren’t for a belt, nor were they even in McGregor’s weight class, they were prizefights for money and pride. That’s all well and good for McGregor, but not good for Tony Ferguson. El Cucuy is scheduled to fight Kevin Lee at UFC 216 for the interim UFC lightweight title, since Khabib Nurmagomedov is perpetually inconsistent and McGregor is off ‘playing grab ass’ in a boxing ring. Needless to say, Tony Ferguson isn’t happy when he talked to media about the buzz that McGregor will come back to fight Diaz instead of him. Strong words from @TonyFergusonXT in a message for @TheNotoriousMMA after he's done "playing grab-ass" in boxing: Fight the right Mexican. pic.twitter.com/YZUc68vuCg
VIDEO | Daniel Cormier Has a Long Discussion About Jon Jones for UFC on FOX
Justin Golightly - August 25, 2017
As we reported earlier in the week, this Jon Jones news and subsequent fallout will result in a domino effect that will touch many different things. One big domino in the middle of all this is former UFC light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier. Coming off his devastating loss, the man already had enough to deal already. Now, it’s all shoved back into his face again. While he is still on a cruise ship vacationing with his family, he took the time out for UFC on FOX to talk about Jon Jones at length. “Well, I was just getting to Hawaii. I was in the van heading to the hotel when I received a phone call, and the reaction was disbelief. It was crazy, man. You don’t expect to get that type of call any time, much less when you’re on your way to a vacation with you family. Very difficult [to digest this loss. You just want to have everything be right. I know when I walked away from that fight, I knew that he was better. You know, he had beat me again.”
VIDEO | New Clips of McGregor Beating Malignaggi in Sparring Just Dropped
Justin Golightly - August 25, 2017
This is the song that never ends, Paul Malignaggi just keeps getting worse and worse, my friends. Late last night, it was “revealed” that Malignaggi may have been used by Floyd Mayweather to infiltrate Conor McGregor’s camp. This may have been one of the decisions that backfired against Mayweather, because Malignaggi ended up locked into all of this drama. From what we’ve seen so far, just a few clips and some word of mouth, Malignaggi didn’t do too well in sparring. That infamous knockdown clip (and the brutal straight left before that) sent shockwaves through the internet. Well, the talk continued and never stopped, now there are even more clips that just dropped last night. …They don’t make Malignaggi look any better.
