Ever since Jorge Masvidal gave Leon Edwards the ‘three-piece and a soda‘ the Englishman has wanted an actual fight with “Gamebred”. However, despite both men winning their respective bouts at UFC London, they were not matched up by the organization. Instead, “Gamebred” fought Ben Askren, and “Rocky” took on Rafael dos Anjos. Now that they both men have once again proved victorious, and are currently ranked 3rd and 4th in the division, pairing them up together seems to make a lot of sense. But, according to Edwards, Masvidal is making excuses to avoid the fight.

The two former champions went 1-1 across two bouts, and exchanged plenty of trash talk throughout the time they were intertwined. Today, Michael Bisping is happily retired. Luke Rockhold, on the other hand, has fallen on hard times, losing three of his last four fights — all by knockout. Not even a move up to the light heavyweight division was able to revivify the former champion’s career, as he was knocked out by Jan Blachowicz in his debut in this heavier weight class.

In fact, the widespread perception seems to be that Trinaldo did enough to win. The man himself certainly thinks he did, and is very disappointed in the cage-side judges for depriving him of a victory.

Late last night, it was reported that Jon Jones was charged with battery. It is alleged that the UFC’s light heavyweight champion touched a strip club waitress inappropriately, and then forced her onto his lap as he kissed her neck, and put her in a chokehold. The waitress then says she told Jones to stop on numerous occasions, but he never did.

Two former UFC lightweight standouts are set to headline an upcoming Bellator card. The promotion announced on Monday that former UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson will take on Myles Jury in the main event of Bellator 227. The event takes place Sept. 27 in Dublin, Ireland. The fight pairing was confirmed during Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show on ESPN on Monday and announced in a Bellator press release.

Last week, BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor reported that a featherweight showdown between top contenders Brian Ortega and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung is likely to land on the UFC’s September 21 return to Mexico City. BREAKING! Korean Zombie vs Brian Ortega is in the works for September 21 in Mexico City. It is not a title shot but according to TKZ’s camp, it is “the next best thing”. Worth adding that Chan Sung Jung still wants to compete December 21 in Korea.

Colby Covington was quick to jump on battery allegations against Jon Jones. KRQE News 13 revealed that Jones is facing a battery charge stemming from an alleged April strip club incident. A spokesperson for Jones, James Hallinan, said the accusations are false and that Jones didn’t know of the charge until he was informed by the TV news station.
