Earlier this week, “The Last Stylebender” sat down for an interview with Yahoo Sports to discuss his first title defence in March. His upcoming opponent, “The Soldier of God,” has set the bar high with his Olympic wrestling background and brutal knockouts over the likes of Lyoto Machida and Luke Rockhold.

Famed MMA coach Trevor Wittman has developed a new MMA glove with the hopes of reducing the frequency of eye-pokes caused by most other gloves. These new gloves had their official debut on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast. The gloves were introduced by former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans, who brought them along for his appearance on the UFC commentator and comedian’s show.

Junior Albini among latest round of UFC roster cuts

The UFC continues to trim its roster with the subtraction of four more fighters including Brazilian heavyweight Junior Albini. The UFC released 13 fighters earlier this week including fav favorite Ben Saunders and former Ultimate Fighter winner Brad Katona, and then later cut Juan Adams, bringing the total to 14 fighters cut. Now four more have been released, including Albini.

Donald Trump can add Darren Till’s visa to his “to-do list”, as the middleweight is pleading with the US President to sort his travel documents before UFC 248. The British fighter is expected to fly stateside to meet Jared Cannonier in the Octagon at UFC 248. The event takes place on Saturday 8th March at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, which gives a short window to get his US visa approved

ARES Fighting Championship is coming back on April 3, and so is their breakout fighter Oumar Kane (1-0 MMA, 1-0 ARES), also known as Reug Reug. Oumar Kane, a Senegalese wrestler, made his mixed martial arts debut last December at ARES 1 against French-Moroccan fighter Sofiane Boukichou, known for his past in UK’s promotion Cage Warriors. During that bout Reug Reug entertained the home crowd showing his raw power, slamming his opponent around the cage in style. The African star eventually finished Boukichou with heavy shots from top position, bringing home his first career victory in the sport of mixed martial arts.

On Wednesday, the Miami Herald published an inaccurate article reporting that UFC welterweight star Nate Diaz had been hospitalized after brawling with cops during a domestic violence arrest in Miami. The veracity of this story was immediately called into question by Diaz’s team, who denied it outright and pointed out that Diaz has not been in Miami for over a week.

Early on Wednesday, a report from from the Miami Herald — which seems to have been deleted — stated that UFC welterweight contender Nate Diaz was hospitalized after attacking police officers during an arrest in Miami. “It took quite a few officers to hold him down,” Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina allegedly told the Miami Herald, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

UFC 247 was an entertaining card with plenty of finishes and some exciting, back-and-forth wars. Unfortunately, as is so often the case with entertaining cards of this kind, the result is quite a few lengthy medical suspensions. This time around, that includes a potential six-month sit for UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko, who decimated Katlyn Chookagian in the UFC 247 co-main event. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which oversaw the UFC 247 card in Houston, does not disclose the details of their medical suspensions the way other state commissions do, so we don’t know what injuries and health concerns have caused the suspensions each fighter received. We also don’t know if the fighters listed below can compete earlier if they’re cleared by a doctor, but that is usually the case.
