UFC light heavyweight Ion Cutelaba tested positive for COVID-19 and is out of his rematch at UFC 252 against Magomed Ankalaev. MMAFighting.com confirmed Igor Lazorin‘s report that Cutelaba tested positive for COVID-19. As a result of the positive test, he is forced to withdraw from his fight this Saturday against Ankalaev. According to Cutelaba’s manager, he tested positive on Sunday and is now in quarantine.

The sources asked for anonymity since the news hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. The two 185-pound fighters were expected to lock horns on August 22 in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the UFC APEX facility. They were slated to co-headline the event.

UFC middleweight contender Edmen Shahbazyan has reportedly been disciplined for displaying the flag of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in his recent loss to Derek Brunson. The Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is a region that is internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, but is predominantly populated by Armenians, many of whom feel it belongs to Armenia. The contested region was the subject of a short war in 1920, another violent conflict in the early 90s, and has been the site of several bloody skirmishes as recently as this year.
