Matt Brown and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone engaged in one of the great fights from the exhilerating UFC 206 event that took place at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto over the weekend. Brown and Cerrone went to war in a back and forth battle that came to an end in the third round where Cerrone landed a devastating kick to the head of Brown as he was leaning into the powerful attack. Brown dropped to the canvas and Cerrone realized Brown’s condition and did not need to follow up with any strikes to the downed veteran.

The fight will take place on the main card, and is a pivotal fight for both men. For Brown, he will be looking to snap a 2-fight losing streak that has seen him be submitted by Demian Maia at UFC 198, and then TKOd by Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201 back in July. On the other hand, for Cerrone, the fight is an opportunity to extend his unbeaten streak at welterweight to 4-0 as he looks to defeat a gritty veteran in ‘The Immortal’.

As unfortunate as they are, UFC 205‘s last-minute losses are UFC 206’s gain. First the Toronto card received a Tim Kennedy vs. Rashad Evans bout that was originally scheduled for UFC 205’s undercard. Now, it looks as though the Toronto card will grow by one epic welterweight scrap as Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone is rumored to be taking on Matt Brown at the event. Cowboy, of course, was expected to take on Kelvin Gastelum in the second bout of UFC 205’s main card. When Gastelum was unable to make weight for the bout, however, Cowboy was left without an opponent and forced off the UFC 205 bill.

Coming off a devastating loss to Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201 in July, Brown has taken some time off to recover and ensure that he minimizes any risks of brain injury but will be back in the Octagon at UFC 207 on December 30 to face Tarec Saffiedine. The main event of UFC 207 will feature the return of former women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who has been out of competition ever since losing the belt to Holly Holm at UFC 193 back in November 2015. Rousey will be getting a chance to get the title back as she takes on the champion Amanda Nunes in a five-round title fight.

Following his recent defeat at the hands of Demian Maia earlier this month at UFC 198 in Brazil, fan favorite welterweight Matt Brown signed an 8 fight deal with the UFC. Shortly after his new contract was finalized, Brown signed to fight Jake Ellenberger at UFC 201. The fight is a crucial one for both fighters. Brown enters the bout following his loss to Demian Maia, which saw him drop to #8 on the UFC’s stacked welterweight ranking ladder. Despite facing defeat over the weekend at UFC 198, Matt Brown doesn’t agree with the UFC’s decision to have Tyron Woodley fighting for the welterweight title against Robbie Lawler in the main event at UFC 201. “He didn’t beat nobody,” Brown said to MMAjunkie. “Gastelum is nobody that you beat to get a title fight. The Condit fight – do you even consider that a victory? That’s debatable in itself. He didn’t beat Condit; he won by default. He hasn’t really done anything else beyond that.”
