UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev has responded to Charles Oliveira. The two are currently set to rematch at UFC 294 later this month, in Abu Dhabi. The fight takes place just a year after their first fight at UFC 280. Last October, Islam Makhachev scored a second-round submission win over Charles Oliveira to win the vacant lightweight gold.

Mateusz Gamrot is shooting for the stars following an anticlimactic TKO victory over Rafael Fiziev at UFC Vegas 79. Gamrot vs. Fiziev didn’t end the way most anticipated. In the second round, Fiziev suffered a nasty leg injury after he connected a kick on the elbow of Gamrot. The bout had to be stopped due to the injury, and Gamrot was awarded the TKO win.

Justin Gaethje is open to facing off with the winner of Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira at UFC 294. ‘The Highlight’ is fresh off his rematch against Dustin Poirier late last month in Utah. Five years after ‘The Diamond’ scored a knockout win, Justin Gaethje got his revenge in the main event of UFC 291. In the opening seconds of the second frame, he scored a highlight-reel stoppage victory.

Scoring a first-round knockout win, was enough for the Brazilian to earn a second crack against Islam Makhachev. Last October, Charles Oliveira was defeated by the Russian in a battle for vacant lightweight gold.

Conor McGregor has recently called out Justin Gaethje, despite coaching the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter with Michael Chandler. While the Irishman made headlines with the callout, ‘The Highlight’ hasn’t shown much interest in the bout.

Heading into the contest, Beneil Dariush was riding arguably the greatest run in his career. Riding an eight-fight winning streak, he defeated names such as Tony Ferguson and Mateusz Gamrot in that stretch.

This was a pivotal bout in the lightweight division. The quick finish for “do Bronx” may have earned him a rematch against Islam Makhachev. Back in October 2022, Makhachev took the previously vacant UFC Lightweight Championship via second-round submission over Oliveira.

There, the Brazilian faced Beneil Dariush, who was riding a lengthy winning streak. Leading into the event, both men were attempting to secure a title shot, as the bout was Charles Oliveira’s first since last October at UFC 280.

Beneil Dariush isn’t upset with his UFC 289 performance. Dariush was taking on Charles Oliveira in the co-main event of the pay-per-view card and if Dariush won, he would have gotten a lightweight title shot. However, after some early success, Oliveira caught him with a head kick and then landed several punches which hurt Dariush. Once he shot for a takedown, Oliveira got on top of him and scored a first-round TKO.

Since then, Makhchev beat Alexander Volkanovski to defend his belt while Oliveira returned to the win column at UFC 289 with a first-round TKO win over Beneil Dariush.
