VIDEO | Charles Oliveira preps for Max Holloway’s signature fifth-round gesture ahead of BMF title fight

Former UFC lightweight champion Charles Oliveira is leaving no stone unturned ahead of his BMF title fight with Max Holloway.
We’re just under two weeks away from the UFC’s long-awaited return to action to kick off 2026, after weeks of inactivity. It was recently announced that one of the first Paramount+ cards of the year, UFC 326, will feature a BMF title fight between former UFC titleholders Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira in a highly anticipated rematch.
Oliveira is looking to earn another potential lightweight title shot by winning the BMF belt against Holloway. This is Oliveira’s second appearance since a brutal knockout defeat to Ilia Topuria at UFC 317.
In Holloway’s BMF title-winning performance against Justin Gaethje at UFC 300, he capped off a dominant performance with a last-minute scramble with Gaethje that resulted in one of the most shocking knockouts in UFC history. Holloway pointed to the canvas to ‘throw down’ with Gaethje in the final seconds, landing a knockout blow right before the final buzzer.

Holloway attempted a similar outcome against Dustin Poirier at UFC 318 last year, but failed to knock out Poirier in the final seconds. Ahead of UFC 326, Oliveira doesn’t want to enter the fight unprepared in any facet, including for a potential last-second chaotic sequence in the cage with Holloway.

Oliveira is also looking to get revenge against Holloway after a controversial defeat earlier in their careers. In August 2015 in a UFC Fight Night main event in Saskatchewan, Oliveira suffered an esophagus injury just seconds into his fight with Holloway, resulting in a TKO defeat.
Just a few fights later, Holloway won the UFC featherweight title by defeating Jose Aldo in back-to-back fights. Oliveira would eventually make the full-time move to lightweight, winning the lightweight belt at UFC 262 over Michael Chandler.
