Last night, UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor stepped into the boxing ring with one of his most heated rivals, undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Unfortunately for McGregor and his legions of fans, this fight didn’t go as planned. Instead, the Irishman wilted under a torrent of 10th-round punches, losing by way of TKO as a result. As much as it was a disappointing night for McGregor, however, it was a momentous one for Mayweather. With this win, “Money” will now ride off into the sunset with a fantastic, 50-0 professional boxing record. Post-fight, Mayweather shared a brief encounter with McGregor’s biggest rival from the MMA sphere, Nate Diaz. Round one begins and Conor comes forward with a flurry. He continues to press the pace. McGregor with a left and then another. Mayweather avoids both punches. Floyd takes the center of the rind. Conor with a body shot and then a left hand over the top. Mayweather with a left. McGregor with some showmanship. He lands a left hand to the body. Mayweather returns fire with a left. Conor charges forward with a flurry. Mayweather leaps in but gets caught with a left uppercut. Conor paws with his jab. Floyd avoids and round one comes to an end.

If the fight itself wasn’t bizarre enough that its even happening, all of this might result in McGregor fighting Paul Malignaggi all from a sparring session. The Killers are involved, Demi Lovato is singing the National Anthem, will Justin Bieber or Nate Diaz walk out Mayweather? Who knows. What we do know, is that they gimmicked this fight to the extreme. Take this for example: Green and gold popcorn that cost eight bucks. That’s even more than egregious movie theater prices. This is the song that never ends, Paul Malignaggi just keeps getting worse and worse, my friends. Late last night, it was “revealed” that Malignaggi may have been used by Floyd Mayweather to infiltrate Conor McGregor’s camp. This may have been one of the decisions that backfired against Mayweather, because Malignaggi ended up locked into all of this drama. From what we’ve seen so far, just a few clips and some word of mouth, Malignaggi didn’t do too well in sparring. That infamous knockdown clip (and the brutal straight left before that) sent shockwaves through the internet. Well, the talk continued and never stopped, now there are even more clips that just dropped last night. …They don’t make Malignaggi look any better.

It happens every fight. We all have done it. He’s too fast, we say. The ground game will be his downfall. This guy will finally be the guy who beats Conor McGregor, the media writes. It’s very hard to see how McGregor can pull this one off, but nothing has dented his confidence. Nate Diaz thinks it’s best for every fighter to not make any hard claims of who will win the mega-million dollar money boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. Having fought the Irish MMA superstar twice and having one win and one loss on record with “The Notorious,” Diaz knows he is a game opponent. Although Mayweather’s team has hinted at trying to get Nate to walk out with Floyd for the fight on Saturday night, Nate’s roots are in mixed martial arts. However, in speaking on the “Against All Odds with Cousin Sal” podcast, Diaz says he isn’t picking any sides, but there is one player involved that he is not happy with.
