There has been a bit of a debate regarding the 10th round TKO stoppage in the Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor money fight. McGregor said after the fight was over that he would have liked it if the ref let the fight go on as he claimed he was more fatigued than hurt.

While millions around the world were excited to see what would happen when Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor stepped into the boxing ring, one boxing legend was very upset that the fight was actually taking place. While some fans cheered Floyd Mayweather’s technical knockout victory over Conor McGregor, some people thought it was finished a little too soon. McGregor himself took the mic after the loss, telling everyone he was just tired from the long fight and wished that the referee let him get laid out. One person in particular, praised ref Robert Byrd’s actions. Darragh O’Carroll, former ringside physician, thinks Byrd made a great call because he thinks Conor McGregor was at risk of brain trauma. They don’t call him “Money” Mayweather for nothing. Floyd Mayweather came out of retirement to fight Conor McGregor in what turned out to be a very smart business move. Just showing up in the arena on fight night earned Mayweather $100 million. With the endorsements, pay-per-view cut and other unspoken bonuses, Mayweather probably doubled or even tripled his winnings. Oh yeah, not to mention he won a solid gold belt that is packed with 4,260 precious stones. All of this led to Floyd Mayweather comparing the boxing match to a bank robbery. Conor McGregor and a couple of his sparring partners from the boxing community have had a bit of a rocky relationship. Prior to the big buzz between McGregor and former two-weight boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi, “The Notorious” had a bit of a rift with Chris van Heerden, a former IBO champion. McGregor and van Heerden sparred leading up to Conor’s rematch with Nate Diaz at UFC 202. Initially, they had great things to say about each other but things turned south when an edited clip of them sparring showed McGregor getting the better of van Heerden. The former IBO champ then released an unedited clip of their sparring session that showed things much more competitive between the two.

Now that the fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is all over, it seems referee Joe Cortez can speak about some of the things that happened during McGregor’s training camp. The Hall of Fame referee was brought in McGregor’s camp to ref sparring sessions and give the current UFC lightweight champion a better understanding of what would and wouldn’t be allowed in the ring on fight night. Perhaps the biggest hype leading up to the fight was from within McGregor’s training camp as he and former two-division boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi had a falling out after Malignaggi felt “exploited” with some photos released from their sparring. One photo, in particular, was of Malignaggi getting up off his back from the canvas where it appeared McGregor knocked the retired pro boxer down. Malignaggi claimed it was a pushdown and a video clip released had people debating on whether it was a knockdown or a pushdown.

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor gave fans a fight to talk about before and after they settled things in the boxing ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although not a complete sellout for the live show, many celebrities were in attendance. Cleveland Cavaliers stars from the NBA, LeBron James and J.R. Smith had seats in the house and chatted about the main event between Mayweather and McGregor following the fight. TMZ caught the two talking about the respect they had for Conor McGregor even after his 10th round TKO loss to the undefeated boxing great.

Former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo has been busy working on his boxing training in California with world champion boxing trainer Robert Garcia. Garcia is a former world champion boxer himself and is the older brother of WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia. We’ve seen Aldo sparring at Garcia’s gym with Mexican Olympian boxer Lindolfo Delgado and impress Robert and other gym members. Now, ES News recently published footage of Jose Aldo and Mikey Garcia sparring with things looking very competitive between the two combat sports stars.

Conor McGregor was not given much of a chance from the majority of the boxing community in the matchup against Floyd Mayweather. Given that Mayweather was regarded by many as the best boxer of his generation and in the talks of all time greats, it was a tall order and the current UFC lightweight champion was more than up for the task.

Many believed that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor would be the richest fight in the history of combat sports by breaking the 2015 records that Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio set in 2015. Although not a sellout for the attendance at the event, Floyd Mayweather said during the post-fight press conference that they did break the record for the gate and also the pay-per-view record he and Pacquiao set in their fight. “We did break the record tonight for the biggest gate,” Mayweather stated at the post-fight press conference via MMA Weekly. “Me and Pacquiao done $72 million. I think we done somewhere over $80 million in the live gate (with McGregor).”

He’s also clashed with a significant portion of the MMA community, battling fans, media members, and even other fighters on Twitter. The opposition in his latest skirmish? UFC featherweight king Max Holloway. The exchange began when Malignaggi debated the prevalence of body shots in MMA with reporter Damon Martin.

Unfortunately, McGregor and Malignaggi’s work together spawned one of the most high-profile beefs in combat sports, as Malignaggi didn’t like how he was portrayed by the UFC champ, and made multiple attacks on his character thereafter. This beef reached new heights in the days leading up to the big Mayweather vs. McGregor fight, when a video surfaced of Mayweather and Malignaggi suggesting Malignaggi had been a spy for Mayweather.

The highly anticipated boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor ended with Mayweather getting his hand raised to surpass Rocky Marciano’s historic undefeated 49-0 record to establish himself in the record books at 50-0. Mayweather calculated McGregor in the early rounds and then turned his offensive output up to earn a tenth round stoppage. Mayweather has been known for his outstanding defensive boxing skills but said in numerous interviews prior to the fight that he would give the fans the fight they wanted and that it wouldn’t go the distance. Mayweather’s promise was delivered but many argued the stoppage came a bit early while others including UFC President Dana White agreed with the ref calling the fight at the moment he did.

Oliver Regis, a British bartender flew out to Las Vegas, Nevada to watch the highly anticipated money fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. According to The Sun, the British fan bought his $2,500 ticket and made his into the T-Mobile Arena only to find that his seat was near the worst in the house located at the very top.

Both Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor delivered an exciting fight on Saturday night in what was built up to potentially be the richest bout in all of combat sports. Many things were said between the two superstar opponents leading up to the fight and when it was all said and done with Mayweather getting the stoppage in the 10th round, the two athletes showed an incredible amount of respect for one another in the ring and at the post-fight press conference.
