Aljamain Sterling vows to "dominate" Petr Yan in "one round" at UFC 273 to defend his belt

Aljamain Sterling believes he will finish Petr Yan in the first round at UFC 273 to defend his bantamweight title. In the co-main event of UFC 273 from Jacksonville, Florida, Sterling and Yan are having their highly-anticipated rematch to unify their titles. Sterling became the undisputed champion back at UFC 259 last March when Yan was DQ’d for landing an illegal knee. Since then, Sterling has been rehabbing an injury while Yan went on to defeat Cory Sandhagen to become the interim bantamweight champion.

Aljamain Sterling was prepared for the UFC 273 press conference. The UFC bantamweight champion wore a football helmet to confront his foe Petr Yan. ‘Funk Master’ and ‘Mercy’ first fought back at UFC 259 in March 2021. While Sterling had some success in the early rounds, he was fading badly in the championship contest. In round four, Yan had the fight in complete control. For some inexplicable reason, he landed a big illegal knee.

Paddy Pimblett has announced that he’s gained nearly fifty pounds just weeks after UFC London. ‘The Baddy’ faced Kazula Vargas on March 19th in a lightweight bout. For the fight, Pimblett notably had to get down in weight, as he normally balloons up out of camp. For the bout, the lightweight successfully made weight at 155-pounds.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik wasn’t surprised he was booked to fight Marcin Tybura. Rozenstruik headlined a card last year against Augusto Sakai who he knocked out in brutal fashion. That same night, Marcin Tybura TKO’d Walt Harris in the evening’s co-main attraction. After the event, Tybura called for the Rozenstruik fight to happen next but instead they both got different opponents. Now, however, after they both lost their last fights, the two will meet on the UFC 273 prelims.

Volkanovski was originally supposed to face Max Holloway for a third time but the Hawaiian was forced out of the bout and so the UFC quickly shifted to Zombie. Once he got the fight, Cha says Zombie flew right into Arizona and did his entire camp there.

On the main card of UFC 273, a very intriguing welterweight matchup goes down as Gilbert Burns takes on the undefeated and hyped-up, Khamzat Chimaev. Heading into the fight, Burns is a +375 underdog while the Swede is a massive -510 favorite. Ahead of the fight, BJPENN.com reached out to pro fighters to get their prediction for the scrap. While the majority of pros are picking Chimaev, some think the odds for the contest are off, believing Burns can make this is a tough fight and possibly get the win.

Vicente Luque believes a fight with Colby Covington could be the ticket for him to secure a UFC welterweight title shot. Luque (21-7 MMA) is scheduled to meet up with Belal Muhammad (20-3 MMA) at UFC Fight Night main event on Saturday, April 16th. It will be their second fight, the first taking place back in November of 2016 where ‘The Silent Assassin’ came out the victor.
