Over the course of the last few years, Islam Makhachev has firmly established himself as the king of the lightweight division. Of course, prior to that, there was one man who stood tall above the rest at 155 pounds – his close friend Khabib Nurmagomedov.

One possible opponent for Pennington’s first title defense is Kayla Harrison, who recently signed with the promotion and will make her debut opposite Holly Holm at UFC 300.

During his tenure Couture was a 3-time UFC World Heavyweight Champion & 2-time UFC World Light Heavyweight Champion. Couture retired from competition at the age of 47 after having fought for the UFC from 1997 through to 2011.
