Khamzat Chimaev is the reigning 185-pound titleholder following a dominant grappling performance against Dricus du Plessis back in August. Nassourdine Imavov made a case for the next middleweight title shot after defeating Caio Borralho at UFC Paris. The winner of the Oct. 18 bout between Reinier de Ridder and Anthony Hernandez also has a chance to secure the next 185-pound title shot.

Did Nassourdine Imavov do enough at UFC Paris to secure No. 1 contender status? Imavov shared the Octagon with Caio Borralho this past Saturday. The two headlined a card held in the Accor Arena. The bout was a chance for the winner to secure a UFC middleweight title opportunity against Khamzat Chimaev. Imavov ended up nabbing a unanimous decision victory with two scores of 49-46 and one 50-45 score.

However, that plan ultimately fell through after Belfort exited the matchup.

He finished him off with a nasty elbow, making a statement that he’s a real contender at 205 pounds. Now, of course, the focus shifts to what’s next for him as the 31-year-old continues to push for even more highlight-reel moments.

On Saturday night, Caio Borralho failed in his attempt to defeat Nassourdine Imavov and earn a UFC middleweight championship shot. The two battled it out in the main event and, for the most part, it was Imavov who was able to dictate the pace of the fight and eventually secure a decision win.

Khamzat Chimaev has responded to Nassourdine Imavov’s victory at UFC Paris. Imavov had a massive opportunity to get one step closer to his first UFC middleweight title shot. He turned in a brilliant effort in the standup throughout five rounds to defeat Caio Borralho inside Accor Arena. “The Sniper” isn’t guaranteed the next crack at Chimaev, as an Oct. 18 clash between Reinier de Ridder and Anthony Hernandez could determine the next middleweight contender depending on the outcome.

A UFC debutant missed out on his chance to be featured on a recent Paris card due to a bad weight cut, but he might be staying on the roster. Many fans and experts were looking forward to a scheduled featherweight clash between Patricio “Pitbull” Freire and the debuting Losene Keita. On weigh-in day, Keita missed weight by three pounds. “Pitbull” refused to go through with the matchup following his planned opponent’s failure to make the contracted weight.

Ciryl Gane believes he will be fully prepared for Tom Aspinall when they collide at UFC 321. Gane is a former interim UFC Heavyweight Champion, but he hasn’t held the undisputed gold yet. He will have a third chance to do so when he meets Aspinall on Oct. 25 in Abu Dhabi. Aspinall is a sizable betting favorite going into the title fight, but Gane thinks the work he’s put in behind the scenes will pay off.

A heavyweight who once felt the wrath of Tom Aspinall believes the UFC Heavyweight Champion will remain at the top for a while. Aspinall was awarded the undisputed distinction after ex-heavyweight champion Jon Jones retired. Aspinall held the interim gold, and “Bones” had no interest in a title unification bout. Aspinall will be putting his title at stake against Ciryl Gane in the main event of UFC 321 on Oct. 25.

If Arman Tsarukyan doesn’t get the next UFC lightweight title shot, he has a willing dance partner who just scored a big win in Paris. Entering UFC Paris this past Saturday, Benoit Saint Denis was an underdog against the surging Mauricio Ruffy. There was some buzz surrounding Ruffy, who is a member of the Fighting Nerds. Ruffy also drew the ire of some when he bashed grapplers ahead of fight night.
