On Saturday night, the UFC will return to our screens with UFC Vegas 8, the latest event out of the promotion’s Apex facility. UFC Vegas 8 will be headlined by a clash of light heavyweight contenders, as Anthony Smith and Aleksander Rakic look to rebound from recent losses to Glover Teixeira and Volkan Oezdemir respectively, and reassert themselves amongst the division’s best fighters.

Former UFC and Bellator commentator Jimmy Smith has landed a new satellite radio show, and long-time UFC commentator Joe Rogan will be his first guest. MMA on Sirius XM announced Smith’s new radio show, titled Unlocking the Cage, on Twitter earlier this week.
Robbie Lawler not thinking about retirement "at all"

Former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler says he’s not thinking about retirement “at all” heading into his fight against Neil Magny. Lawler filled in on short notice for Geoff Neal against Magny, and the two will now lock horns in the co-main event of this Saturday’s UFC on ESPN+ 33 event. For the veteran Lawler, if he wants to make one more run at the title at age 38 then he needs to get a win here in order to snap his current three-fight losing skid. But win or lose against Magny, Lawler says he is not thinking about hanging up his gloves, which some have suggested.

UFC heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis recently had a very close call while riding an ATV outside his home with his young son. In a video captured by his home security cameras, Lewis can be seen sitting on his ATV, lifting his son onto the vehicle to join him. His son then seemingly hits the gas, sending the ATV careening through a small garden, into a stone pillar, and finally out onto the lawn.
Israel Adesanya throws support behind NBA players during boycott

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has thrown his support behind the NBA players currently boycotting games in an act of protest against police brutality. Last Sunday, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, a black man named Jacob Blake was gunned down by police officers. The incident was captured on video, and sparked outrage at the national and international levels.

On Thursday night, UFC President Dana White endorsed Donald Trump at The Republican National Convention. His speech did not go over well with fact-checkers. During his appearance at the RNC, White spoke at length about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, and praised Trump’s handling of the issue, which has now claimed upward of 181,000 lives in the United States.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones explained why he decided to give up his 205lbs belt and announce the move up to heavyweight. Jones recently announced on social media that he vacated the UFC light heavyweight title, and the vacant title will be on the line at UFC 253 in September between Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz. Jones made the decision to drop his belt and make the move to heavyweight for a few reasons, which he expanded on in a social media post. Taking to his Twitter on Thursday night, Jones expanded on his decision to vacate the 205lbs belt.

Cummings will be returning this Saturday at UFC Vegas 8 after dropping a decision to Omari Akhmedov last September at UFC 242. The hope for Cummings was to make a quick turnaround. Yet, he was turned down a couple of times and then the COVID-19 pandemic hit leaving Cummings not being able to fight in nearly a year.
