After Ige dropped a decision to Korean Zombie back in June, he wasn’t sure what would be next for him. He thought he would have to fight someone ranked below him, yet when he got the fight offer to face Emmett it was an immediate yes.

A featherweight banger has been added to UFC 269 as Josh Emmett will return to the Octagon against Dan Ige. Multiple sources informed BJPENN.com that Emmett and Ige have been agreed to for UFC 269 on December 11 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event of the card will see Charles Oliveira defending his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier. Amanda Nunes also defends her bantamweight title against Julianna Pena in the co-main.

Josh Emmett picked up a big unanimous decision win over Shane Burgos in the co-main event of UFC on ESPN 11 last weekend, but it came at a cost. Emmett sustained a litany of serious injuries in the fight, including a severe leg injury in the early moments of the opening round.

The medical suspensions for last Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 11 card have been released, and as expected, co-main event star Josh Emmett is facing a long sit. Emmett battled Shane Burgos in the UFC on ESPN 11 co-main event. While he ended up winning a unanimous decision, Burgos didn’t make it easy on him. Emmett wound up leaving the Octagon with a litany of serious injuries. Those injuries could keep him out of the cage for 180 days.

Emmett met fellow top-10 featherweight contender Shane Burgos in the card’s co-main event. The pair battled tooth and nail for three wild rounds, with Emmett ultimately capturing a unanimous decision victory. Both men earned bonuses for the fight, which instantly stood out as a 2020 Fight of the Year contender.

This past weekend Josh Emmett picked up another big win to his resume, but he’s now going to be out of action for some time. According to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, MRI test results have revealed that in his victory over Shane Burgos, Emmett suffered multiple knee injuries, including a complete tear of his ACL. But, he couldn’t get a fight booked and was then planning on testing free agency before inking a new deal.

With the UFC schedule ramping back up, the matchmakers have been busy trying to get contracts signed for the promotion’s upcoming events in late May and in June. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported on Wednesday that a number of fights are in the works for the events in June, and Emmett vs. Burgos is arguably the best of the bunch.

It was a tremendous performance by the Team Alpha Male product, who sent the hometown crowd into a frenzy with the finish. The victory was Emmett’s second straight win by knockout, and it should put him in title contention at 145lbs.

It is also one of the most endearing fan bases in all of sports. Josh Emmett was on the rise in the featherweight division. He shocked many by knocking out Ricardo Lamas to put himself into the top-10 of the division. There, Emmett was looking to build off the win and become a title contender. His next fight was in the main event when he took on Jeremy Stephens. Emmett had some success in the fight until Stephens landed a nice combination of punches and elbows which knocked Emmett out. To make matters worse, Emmett dealt with a bevy of injuries which has kept him out of the Octagon for over a year.

Josh Emmett is set to return to the Octagon on March 30, when he takes on Michael Johnson. When he does finally return, it will have been over a year since his last fight because of all the injuries he sustained in his last outing. That left Emmett with only one fight in 2018 and only one chance to get paid. During this time off, Emmett got thinking about the pay structure in the UFC, and he thinks it could use some work.
