On Thursday morning, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan took to Instagram to praise Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Yancy Medeiros for their thrilling scrap at UFC Austin – a card he was off-duty for.  Rogan, like many, was blown away by the respect the two welterweights showed each other during this brief but exciting battle. I just got home from the @icehousecc and decided to unwind by rewatching this epic fight between @yancymedeiros and @cowboycerrone. This fight wasn’t just epic because it launched cowboy into a 3 way tie with @mikebisping and @georgesstpierre for the most wins ever in the UFC (20). It was also a special fight in that one of the things that was so enjoyable about the fight was the respect the two had for each other, both before and after their one round of chaos. They even embraced in friendship in the middle of a round, and I fucking loved it. They briefly paused to hug and then went right back to a full tilt brawl. They both just went for it with pure respect and love for each other, and they both swung for the fences. Cowboy wound up connecting with a pinpoint right hand and wound up getting the stoppage right before the buzzer. It was epic, and then again, after it was over there was nothing but love and respect. I thought it was all around an awesome experience to watch it even a second time. Thank you, gentlemen, for a great moment in MMA, and a really fun fight to watch.

With as many awesome things that happened at UFC 221, it’s still hard to move on from that absolutely egregious eye gouge that Li Jingliang did to Jake Matthews to get out of a guillotine choke. While Matthews was all class about it after the fact, it hasn’t stopped fans, media and other fighters from scolding Jingliang for the foul. Joe Rogan recently spoke up about it on his recent show and wasn’t happy about what he did in the very least. “I thought it was f-cking bullsh-t. You can’t let a guy get away with that, or he’s going to do it again. […] You don’t do it that way. You tap. It’s straight up cheating; it’s not just shady. It’s cheating. They should tell him, ‘If this ever happens again, if you ever think you’re going to do this again, we’re going to kick you out of the league.’ You can’t do that. You can’t gouge someone’s eye when they’re choking you. It felt like the fingers were in long enough for him to know the fingers were in there. The referee f-cked up. The UFC should do something. Someone should do something.”

Floyd Mayweather’s potential move to MMA is a seriously hot topic these days. Of course, it’s unlikely the legendary boxer would have much of a chance in the UFC’s Octagon – particularly against his arch rival Conor McGregor. Speaking on Tuesday’s edition of The Joe Rogan Experience MMA Show UFC commentator Joe Rogan broke down Mayweather’s chances of success in a potential MMA bout with McGregor. Unsurprisingly, he thinks they’re incredibly slim.

Khabib Nurmagomedov dazzled a lot of people with his performance over Edson Barboza at UFC 219. Although a few people including Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson were not so impressed by Nurmagomedov’s performance, UFC commentator Joe Rogan was blown away and has talked about a matchup between McGregor and Nurmagomedov as that is undeniably a very intriguing matchup in the UFC lightweight division. Given that Smith is a bottomless pit of MMA knowledge with charisma to boot, this news came as a definite surprise. Apparently, however, the broadcaster’s departure from Bellator was quite amicable. He’s back and everyone is terrified. Khabib Nurmagomedov made weight with no problems and went in there to take on arguably his biggest challenge yet in Edson Barboza. His performance was as dominant as any other fight he’s had. Against Michael Johnson, against former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, it doesn’t matter, so far Nurmagomedov has done whatever he wanted to his opponents. On Joe Rogan’s MMA Show today, Rogan and new free broadcasting agent Jimmy Smith talked about how much of a beast Nurmagomedov is. “[Khabib] Nurmagomedov just mauled [Edson Barboza]. Mauled him. I mean, mauled him in a way that you go, ‘Oh God.’ He’s just on such another level that the odds of you beating him drop so substantially after the first minute and a half. After you get – you saw the look on Barboza’s face there’s like, two minutes plus into the first round and he’s trying to get up. The MMA community has yet to get any new substantial information regarding Jon Jones’ positive steroid test following his fight with Daniel Cormier at UFC 214, which took place in July. Jones originally had a hearing date set for December 12 but was granted a continuance in November, which pushed his hearing date back to February 2018. UFC commentator Joe Rogan and fellow martial artist Eddie Bravo were talking on the JRE podcast about the latest with Jones and the status of his hearing and Rogan opened up on some of the rumors that he has been hearing.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan was speaking with Eddie Bravo recently on his podcast and revealed that he asked Dana White about the rumors of Mayweather talking about a multi-fight billion dollar deal with the UFC. Interestingly, the UFC President told Rogan that they have been talking and Mayweather does have interest in fighting in the Octagon.

Speaking with Bellator heavyweight Justin Wren on his recent JRE MMA Show podcast episode, Rogan touched on UFC 218, which took place over the weekend in Detroit, Michigan. Rogan was extremely impressed with the wars put on with Yancy Medeiros vs. Alex Oliveira and Eddie Alvarez vs. Justin Gaethje. Rogan was also blown away by Francis Ngannou’s ferocious KO win over Alistair Overeem. Rogan then went over Max Holloway’s impressive performance against Jose Aldo in his first UFC featherweight title defense.

Francis Ngannou is just a couple of days away from fighting Alistair Overeem in the biggest fight of his career. It’s a story as old as the UFC itself: Two heavyweights, one a young lion trying to get to the top against a veteran who intends to keep his stop at the top. It just so happens that this fight takes place in the UFC’s largest division, where pretty much anyone can knock anyone else out. Especially when one of those guys is a K-1 champion and the other just set the record for the hardest punch. Joe Rogan marked out for the young Ngannou recently on his podcast. “He’s fighting this weekend and Francis Ngannou just broke the world record for the most power ever shown in a punch. They have this machine that they use worldwide. It’s widely accepted that it’s one of the best way to measure a punch. It’s this large pad and you hit it with full power and it generates it. Francis Ngannou beat the second place by some insane amount of power. He’s a ridiculously powerful dude. He scares the sh-t out of everybody. It shows what the original world record was, then Ngannou broke it by like 3000-pounds or some sh-t. He’s terrifying. You know they found this dude, he was a homeless guy. He was homeless living in France and he made his way into a gym. I believe he wanted to box and when they brought him in.”

After Frankie Edgar was forced to back out of his fight with Max Holloway at UFC 218, all of us were devastated. It’s a fight that we somehow haven’t seen in Holloway’s career, fresh off the heels of the Hawaiian’s dominant performance against former featherweight king Jose Aldo. That was, until we found out it would be none other than Aldo who’d replace Edgar in the fight. How did Holloway react when he found out he’d have a rematch with Aldo? It is what it is. On the premiere of Joe Rogan’s new hour-long MMA round-up show, Rogan couldn’t help but be hype as hell about. “Max Holloway’s a savage. He’s a killer. A straight up killer and not even close to his prime. Max Holloway is long way away from his prime. He’s way better now than he was when he first got into the UFC, he’s continued to get better every fight, now he’s the champion and he just stopped Aldo. And when he they offered him the rematch because Frankie Edgar got injured — they offered [Jose] Aldo the rematch — so Aldo took it. Now it’s going to be Max Holloway versus Aldo II, which is still a huge f-cking fight. When Aldo accepted, Max Holloway wrote on his Instagram, ‘It is what it is.’ Like, ‘No big deal. Well, what are we going to do.’ Like, what? You’re about to fight the greatest featherweight of all time for the second time. And he’s like, ‘It is what it is.’ Like, that’s how badass he is. He just figured, ‘If I f-cked you up once, I’m going to f-ck you up again.'”

Regrettably, just days later, it was announced that he had failed a pre-fight drug test. From there, his knockout win was promptly overturned, and the light heavyweight title was returned to Cormier. Since then, there has been ample discussion about the possibility that Jones consumed a banned substance inadvertently – perhaps by consuming a tainted supplement.
