Demian Maia is delaying his retirement and says he has a few good fights left in him. Following Maia’s first-round TKO loss to Gilbert Burns at UFC Brasilia he said he had one fight left and it would be against either Diego Sanchez or Donald Cerrone. Yet, he has now had a change of heart and says he will keep on fighting and is also interested in rematching Anderson Silva.

Despite his age and the ugly losing skid he’s endured over the last few years, “The Spider” still has the itch to fight again and won’t let his surgery get in the way.

In a new interview, former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva said he wanted to retire in 2012 before his first fight with Chris Weidman at UFC 162. Silva was the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter in the sport at the time and was coming off of a 17-fight win streak with culminated in a vicious TKO over Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153. There were talks of a superfight against UFC welterweight champion George St. Pierre and Silva were in attendance for GSP’s win over Carlos Condit at UFC 154, but the fight never materialized for whatever reason. When the GSP fight didn’t happen, Silva had planned on retiring.

At best, it looked as though Silva’s ligaments had been hacked to pieces by Jared Cannonier’s crippling leg kicks. Yet according to a report from MMA Fighting, which cites sources close to Anderson Silva, the former middleweight champ did not sustain any serious injuries in his UFC 237 loss to Cannonier.
