Gegard Mousasi made his Bellator MMA debut this evening fighting veteran Alexander Shlemenko in the main event of Bellator 185.

The top ranked middleweight, Mousasi, had a very solid opening round but was rocked by one overhand left from Alexander which resulted in his right eye swelling closed.

Round two was a closely contested five minutes, but did include Mousasi getting mount and taking the back of Shlemenko. With that said, Shlemenko landed the superior strikes in round two, leaving many fans and analysts believing the fight was tied heading into round three.

The third and final round was dominated by Shlemenko. Mousasi was fighting with one eye of course, but Alaxander looked in prime condition during tonight’s main event.

In the end, Gegard Mousasi was awarded a unanimous decision victory over Shlemenko (29-28 x3), much to the displeasure of many fans in attendance.

Shortly following the judges controversial ruling, Bellator welterweight superstar Rory MacDonald took to Twitter where he proclaimed Alexander Shlemenko as the contests “clear” winner.
