UFC 299 took place on Saturday March 9th at the Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida.

On the ticket was a bantamweight bout between Petr Yan (17-5 MMA) and Song Yadong (21-8 MMA). The result was a unanimous decision victory for ‘No Mercy’.

Yan, 31, was elated to get back in the win column after succumbing to 3 losses in a row prior to UFC 299. The Russian had lost to Aljamain Sterling (23-4 MMA), Sean O’Malley (18-1 MMA) and Merab Dvalishvili (17-4 MMA) before defeating the ‘Kung Fu Kid’ earlier this month.

Apparently that victory didn’t come without injury, as the fighter updated his status following the bout.

Petr Yan took to ‘X’ today with the following statement:

“So MRI confirmed acl rupture, meniscus tear and groin injury. Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. Nothing will break me, I’m determined to come back stronger than ever in no time.”

The former UFC bantamweight champion is headed for surgery and with recovery and rehabilitation, we may not see the fighter back in the cage in 2024.

Recovery time for a ruptured or torn ACL in the knee is typically nine months to a year.

Although Yan is confirming that he’s determined to come back ‘stronger than ever’.
