UFC legend Jose Aldo is set to make his return to the Octagon at UFC 301 following his retirement in 2022.

Jose Aldo returns

For the longest time now, Jose Aldo has been seen as a legend in mixed martial arts. He’s a fan favorite, he’s a former champion, and he has always had a fantastic fight style. At the age of 37, however, many will wonder how much he has got left in the tank.

In truth, nobody really knows the answer to that question – but it looks like we’re close to finding out. As per @AgFight on X, the veteran is set to make his return when the Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to Brazil for UFC 301.

His opponent will be none other than Jonathan Martinez, although it’s been reported that another possible foe was considered.

Aldo returns

“The King of Rio is BACK! The rumour was a matchup against Dominick Cruz, but Jose Aldo faces Jonathan Martinez in his return at UFC 301 per @AgFight.”

Following a three-fight win streak between 2020 and 2021, Aldo lost to Merab Dvalishvili in August 2022 via unanimous decision. It’s not clear how long he plans to stick around for this next run, but nobody can deny that he has earned the right to prove himself.

Martinez, 29, looks like someone who has the potential to go far in the UFC. He’s on a six-fight win streak with his latest triumph coming last October over Adrian Yanez.

Alas, with the name of Dominick Cruz being thrown around, some may be upset that we won’t finally get the chance to see such a dream fight.
