McGregor enjoys the luxury of being sponsored by Monster Energy and Rolls Royce just to name a few, but what really is setting McGregor up to continue making money after fighting is his own ventures. He’s already had his own Reebok shoe, released a workout program, partnered with David August for a clothing line, and now he’s about to make sure he gets a piece of your money at the liquor store. MMA has experienced a growth over the years that has been meteoric. The sport reached such a fever pitch, that the UFC was able to sell for over $4 billion. Whether you are new or even an old fan, it’s hard to believe mixed martial arts once struggled to try and get on pay-per-view. The UFC started in 1993 and the media was quick to hold up fingers in the shapes of crosses and declare the brutal bloodsport an exercise in barbarism. Back in the 90’s, MMA was banned in many places and states, which resulted in unsanctioned fights happening underground. MMA wasn’t even legal in New York until 2016. Yet, way before that and even 10 years before the UFC’s first event, two guys named Bill Viola and Frank Caliguri were trying to make MMA happen. You’ll finally be able to hear their story in a new documentary coming to Showtime.

Big fights can turn even the best of friends against each other. Conor McGregor boxing Floyd Mayweather pitted two groups of the most die hard, passionate fans clashing with polar opposite takes. Sure, it’s easy for fans to get heated in debates with each other about scoring, who did what, and the ins-and-outs of a fight we have a lot of emotional stake in, however, even the fighters in attendance and those working the event aren’t immune to these types of altercations. A devoted Conor McGregor fan pulled off his own mission impossible and now has the photos to prove it. Oliver Regis, a British bartender flew out to Las Vegas, Nevada to watch the highly anticipated money fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. According to The Sun, the British fan bought his $2,500 ticket and made his into the T-Mobile Arena only to find that his seat was near the worst in the house located at the very top.

There were some fans, fighters, and pundits that believed that there was no chance in the world that Conor McGregor would be able to have a competitive fight with Floyd Mayweather in the boxing ring. Boxing commentator Max Kellerman was a huge doubter of McGregor and went as far as to claim that “The Notorious” would not land a single punch on Mayweather during the entire course of their fight.

Last Saturday, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor came up short in his effort to shock the world with an upset defeat of undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Even in defeat, however, McGregor made an absolute killing for this boxing match. His disclosed purse clocked in at $30 million, while his pay is likely to spike north of $100 million once pay-per-view sales are factored in. Given the scale of this payday, there has been widespread speculation that McGregor will never return to the less-lucrative world of MMA. Apparently, however, this is not the case.

According to a release from the UFC, all-action lightweight veteran Joe Lauzon will return to the Octagon when the UFC touches down in Norfolk, VA on November 11. His opponent will be a grizzled veteran of a similar vintage – and with a similar propensity for wild fights – Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. Given that Lauzon and Guida own a combined 13 Fight of the Night awards, there seems to be a high chance this one leaves fans thrilled. When we last saw Lauzon in action, he lost a close decision to rising Scottish talent Stevie Ray. This loss, meanwhile, was preceded by an unfortunately blatant judging blunder opposite Marcin Held – a decision win even Lauzon admitted he shouldn’t have received. This loss, finally, was preceded by a split loss to Jim Miller, and a TKO defeat of Diego Sanchez. He’s 27-13 in sum.

Though he was already a multimillionaire thanks to his efforts in the Octagon, his Saturday night boxing match with Floyd Mayweather Jr earned him a disclosed purse of $30 million – and he’s expected to clear $100 million once pay-per-view buys are factored in. Based on his comments at the event’s post-fight press conference, McGregor is keen to make sure he collects every penny he’s owed for his battle with Mayweather, which he lost via 10th-round TKO.

That includes his sparring partner turned nemesis Paulie Malignaggi, who broke the fight down in a post-fight discussion with MMAFighting. According to Malignaggi, McGregor was quite impressive in the first few rounds, but the ceaseless pressure applied by Mayweather –part of the undefeated great’s “mental pressure” – ultimately proved to be too much.

The test in question was taken the day of the UFC 214 weigh ins (July 28). Last night, UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor stepped into the boxing ring with one of his most heated rivals, undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. Unfortunately for McGregor and his legions of fans, this fight didn’t go as planned. Instead, the Irishman wilted under a torrent of 10th-round punches, losing by way of TKO as a result. As much as it was a disappointing night for McGregor, however, it was a momentous one for Mayweather. With this win, “Money” will now ride off into the sunset with a fantastic, 50-0 professional boxing record. Post-fight, Mayweather shared a brief encounter with McGregor’s biggest rival from the MMA sphere, Nate Diaz. Last night, UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor bravely wandered into the boxing ring for a battle with undefeated defensive mastermind Floyd Mayweather Jr. While McGregor had some legitimate success early on, he fatigued in the second half of the fight, at which point Mayweather cranked up the offense to author a 10th-round TKO win. Despite this loss, McGregor’s star appears to be higher than ever. The Irishman would seem to have options in both boxing and MMA, but in the opinion of his manager Audie Attar, MMA is the more likely outcome.
