Thankfully, the champ escaped with only a concussion, some minor burns and some more general bumps and bruises. Her upcoming title defense, a planned November 24 rematch with Mei Yamaguchi, however, has been nixed as a result of this harrowing accident. This news comes from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong, who explained the situation in a Facebook post.

Tom Taylor - November 8, 2017

Having reclaimed the UFC bantamweight title with a second-round knockout of Cody Garbrandt, TJ Dillashaw is now hell-bent on a flyweight title fight with dominant divisional king Demetrious Johnson – perhaps the best fighter alive today. “Demetrious can’t run from this one,” Dillashaw said shortly after he defeated Garbrandt to reclaim the bantamweight title. “This one’s too big. (Johnson) broke his (title-defense) record. He got to pad himself and break his record. Now, let’s make some money.”

Last weekend, the UFC returned to the combat sports Mecca of Madison Square Garden with the ridiculously stacked UFC 217. The card went down as one of the absolute best in the long and illustrious history of the UFC. In the UFC 217 main event, we saw former UFC welterweight king Georges St-Pierre return from a four-year hiatus to battle UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping. In spite of his layoff and size disadvantage, St-Pierre achieved this epic feat, choking Bisping unconscious with a rear-naked choke in the the third to become one of just four men to win UFC titles in two divisions.

Last weekend, in the main event of the absolutely stacked UFC 217 card, former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre returned to the Octagon after a four year hiatus. Though St-Pierre’s glory days occurred at welterweight, this return to action occurred at middleweight, where he battled reigning middleweight champion Michael Bisping for the divisional crown. St Pierre looked as good as ever in his return, bludgeoning the ever dangerous Michael Bisping to a third round technical submission win, choking him unconscious with a rear naked choke.

VIDEO | Freddie Roach Wants Georges St-Pierre to Go Back Down to Welterweight

Justin Golightly - November 7, 2017

There’s no rest when it comes to being a champion, especially one who comes back after four years and puts on a performance like Georges St-Pierre did at UFC 217. Everyone wants to know what is next, especially fighters like Robert Whittaker and Tyron Woodley. Even though the Powers That Be have said a defense against Whittaker is next, Freddie Roach thinks St-Pierre’s future fights should be contested at lower weights even after successful middleweight experiment. “I was a little concerned [with Georges St-Pierre’s stamina]. It was obviously a fast-paced fight, and he did box very well in the first round, and I was very happy with it. [Michael] Bisping is a very tough opponent. He came back in the second round. I think moving up in the weight division, I am not sure that’s his best weight division or if we will fight there again. We will see where it goes. The weight got to him. He’s not used to carrying that much weight, and it fatigued him quicker than usual. Again, we will work it all out and get together with the whole team and discuss what the next best move is for Georges.”

Walt Harris Plans to Appeal His Disqualification Against Mark Godbeer at UFC 217

Justin Golightly - November 7, 2017

It wouldn’t be a UFC card in New York without a little bit of controversy. Walt Harris had Mark Godbeer in a bad way, but due to a questionable glancing knee and a follow-up illegal kick, he ended up losing the fight in a rare disqualification. The referee was running and yelling at Harris to stop the action, but Harris followed through with his technique and Godbeer stated he could not continue. After speaking to Dana White at UFC 217, Walt Harris decided he will appeal the official decision. “I spoke with Dana right afterward, and he told me to contest it. He told me to appeal it. He said he felt like, you know, there’s a replay and I had a chance to win if I appealed. And that’s what I’m going to do. I feel like, at worst, it should have been a no-contest. If you remember, Curtis Blaydes and Aleksei Oleinik had the same type of situation, and they gave Curtis the win. I don’t understand how mine just went straight to a disqualification when there was conclusive evidence on the replay that the knee didn’t land low and I was in the heat of the fight. It wasn’t like the ref had put his hands on me, stopped my momentum, and then I took off and went and hit him. I was in the middle of a combination. So, to just go straight to a disqualification is like – I don’t understand it.”

Georges St-Pierre Only a Slight Favorite in Early Conor McGregor Fight Odds

Justin Golightly - November 7, 2017

Georges St-Pierre just came back and proved he’s still one of the greatest of all time by capturing the UFC middleweight title. He enters into a special category of warriors who have held two UFC titles: Randy Couture, our own BJ Penn, and Conor McGregor. Now that he and McGregor are back in the UFC at miraculously the same time, a lot of people are clamoring for the superfight to end all superfights. Over at Bovada, they already have odds released on the potential clash of titans. The larger legend opened up as a slight favorite over the champ champ.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk Congratulated Rose Namajunas Backstage after UFC 217

Justin Golightly - November 7, 2017

Joanna Jedrzejczyk in the build-up to a fight is usually just as frightening as she is inside the cage, but things got especially nasty during the build-up of UFC 217. It was a startling contrast between the way Rose Namajunas handled the situation. Amidst the chaos and whatever happened behind the scenes with Pat Barry, we could see things play out in the staredown: Jedrzejczyk detailing all the violent things she told Namajunas to her face, while Rose just stood there and stood like Fedor Emelianenko. Despite all of this and the shocking result on Saurday, Joanna Jedrzejczyk paid her respect to the new strawweight champion afterwards. “[Joanna Jedrzejczyk] came up and congratulated me after [the fight at UFC 217] and said all the best. You know, that’s that really. This is a job. I had a job to do. I couldn’t get emotional about it. Of course, I don’t agree with her getting all personal and stuff. That’s not my style, but that’s what she’s got to do to feel comfortable to get in that cage. That’s what she’s gotta’ do. I just expected it, so I’m not going to attach no feelings to it.”

Robert Whittaker Politely Calls Out Georges St-Pierre

Justin Golightly - November 7, 2017

Well, he did it. Georges St-Pierre came back to the UFC after being out four years and proved he still is one of the greatest fighters of all time. A career welterweight who reigned supreme before stepping away, St-Pierre jumped up to middleweight and took the title away from Michael Bisping by literally choking him out. It was the cherry on top of an absolutely insane UFC 217 card. However, the combat sports universe never stops. Robert Whittaker has waited long enough and wants his shot to unify the middleweight title. But that’s not all, challengers are waiting in both of St-Pierre’s divisions. Thx for a gr8 week NY. @danawhite @bisping @GeorgesStPierre wat an amzing fight! GSP lets unify anywhere anytime. B an honor champ #anywhere

Dustin Poirier Wants to Know 'Where the F-ck' is Eddie Alvarez

Justin Golightly - November 7, 2017

We’re finally catching our breath from the insanity of UFC 217, but UFC Norfolk is going to get the heart pumping at maximum levels this Saturday. It’s a sleeper card with a ton of good fights, all topped off with Dustin Poirier fighting Anthony Pettis in the main event. It’s a former champion going to battle with a challenger who inching closer to his shot. Poirier is pumped for the match-up, but would have preferred to finish what he and Eddie Alvarez started. “My first original thought [when I heard I’d be fighting Anthony Pettis] was, ‘Where the f-ck is Eddie Alvarez?’. That’s what my first thought was, but then I said alright, this is a fun, exciting fight. This guy is another former world champion. What can I really be upset about? It’s a main event fight – we’re all eyes on us – against another world champion, and I’ll just show again what kind of caliber fighter I am. Right now [the door is closed for fighting Eddie Alvarez] because I’ve been training 12 weeks for Anthony Pettis, so that’s all I’m focused on right now.”
