ONE Championship superstar Angela Lee involved in car accident
One of the brightest young stars in MMA today, ONE Championship atomweight queen Angela Lee, was involved in a “terrible” car accident yesterday, during which her car is reported to have flipped over as many as six times. Thankfully, the champ escaped with only a concussion, some minor burns and some more general bumps and bruises. Her upcoming title defense, a planned November 24 rematch with Mei Yamaguchi, however, has been nixed as a result of this harrowing accident.
This news comes from ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong, who explained the situation in a Facebook post.
“ONE Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee got into a terrible car accident yesterday with her car flipping over 5-6x according to the police,” Sityodong said in his post. “She was driving to her morning training at the gym when she fell asleep. Miraculously, she survived with only a concussion, some minor burns, and a banged up body. If she was not wearing a seatbelt, it would have most certainly been a different story. I saw photos of the damaged car, and it was a complete wreck. Angela will not be competing on November 24. We are all blessed and relieved that Angela will make a full recovery. It is a reminder for all of us that life is so fragile and that we must treasure our loved ones every day. Please join me in sending love, prayers, and positive energy to Angela and her family.”
Angela Lee is undefeated, at 8-0 overall. The ONE atomweight champ has recently authored big wins over Istela Nunes, Jenny Huang, and the aforementioned Mei Yamaguchi, who she was expected to rematch later this month.
The team at BJPenn.com wishes Angela Lee a speedy recovery. Hopefully it won’t be long before we see her back in the cage!
