Chris Taylor - March 4, 2018

Conor McGregor continues to take aim at “kid” Max Holloway Current UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor, who will be stripped of his title as soon as Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov throw their first punch at UFC 223, paid Frankie Edgar some serious respect following “The Answer’s” first career knockout loss to Brian Ortega at last night’s UFC 222 event.

After successful UFC debut, Mackenzie Dern eyes UFC 224 return

Tom Taylor - March 4, 2018

Last night, on the undercard of UFC 222, decorated BJJ player Mackenzie Dern made her anticipated Octagon debut opposite the game Ashley Yoder. Despite a few moments of adversity, the increasingly popular Dern was able to do enough to capture a unanimous decision victory and secure her first Octagon win.

The card was headlined by a women’s featherweight title fight between champion Cris Cyborg and challenger Yana Kunitskaya. Don't let the UFC's Hollywood blockbuster promos fool you - there's nothing glamorous about stepping into a cage

Christine Allen - March 4, 2018

Let me begin this article by stating that had it not been for the UFC Official pre-fight trailers and docu style episodes of UFC Embedded, it is unlikely that I would have become so invested in not only the UFC, but in turn, mixed martial arts. It seems inconceivable to me now, but before October 2016, I had never watched an MMA fight. Ronda Rousey was a name that while familiar, held no real meaning for me, and to the best of my knowledge, Dana White was a woman.

Hector Lombard blames referee for DQ loss to CB Dollaway, plans to appeal result

Tom Taylor - March 4, 2018

Though it was buried under the many compelling features of the main card, UFC 222 also featured an interesting middleweight showdown between former Bellator champion Hector Lombard and TUF veteran CB Dollaway. Regrettably, this fight ended in controversy, as Lombard put Dollaway down with a volley of punches that occurred split seconds after the first round ended. He was disqualified for this perceived foul, which in turn meant a bizarre and surely undesirable DQ win for Dollaway.

MMA community reacts to Cris Cyborg's execution of Yana Kunitskaya

Tom Taylor - March 4, 2018

Though UFC 222 was originally expected to be headlined by a men’s featherweight title fight between champ Max Holloway and challenger Frankie Edgar, a late Holloway injury meant that the card was ultimately topped by a women’s featherweight title fight between champ Cris Cyborg and challenger Yana Kunitskaya. While Yana Kunitskaya deserves props for taking a fight with the monstrous Cyborg on short notice – and for landing a takedown early in the fight – this fight went as expected. After returning to her feet, Cyborg began to stalk her opponent like a hungry carnivore. From there, it was just a matter of time. The champ was feasting on her latest kill before the first round was over.

Tom Taylor - March 4, 2018

Last night, on the main card of UFC 222, red-hot bantamweight prospect Sean O’Malley took his latest steps into the Octagon, this time facing the dangerous Andre Soukhamthath. Despite having his leg pulverized in the final frame – at which point a Soukhamthath win looked like it was only a kick away – O’Malley ultimately came out on top, as he awarded a decision win for his performance in the first and second rounds. Unfortunately, however, O’Malley’s leg was so damaged that he couldn’t even stand for his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan.

Tom Taylor - March 4, 2018

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 222, streaking featherweight contender Brian Ortega stepped into the cage with Frankie Edgar in a clear number-one contender fight. Despite the talent of his veteran foe, Ortega came through in the biggest way possible, putting Edgar down with a rocket-fuelled uppercut in the first round. It was the first time Edgar had ever been finished in his illustrious career.
