Over the weekend, on the main card of the UFC’s latest stop in Washington, D.C., towering heavyweight veteran Stefan Struve returned to the cage opposite Ben Rothwell. Rothwell ultimately defeated Struve with a vicious volley of second-round punches. Unfortunately, this stoppage was somewhat overshadowed by the two devastating low blows Rothwell landed earlier in the fight.

Stefan Struve isn’t retiring yet. According to a report from MMA Fighting, the towering heavyweight veteran will return to the cage opposite Ben Rothwell at UFC on ESPN 7 on December 7 in Washington DC. ESPN’s Ariel Helwani also reported that Struve has signed a new long-term deal with the promotion.

On Sunday afternoon, on the main card of UFC Hamburg, heavyweight veteran Stefan Struve returned to the cage for a fight with dangerous Polish contender Marcin Tybura. Struve was not without his moments in this fight, landing some nice leg kicks throughout, and wobbling his foe on one occasion. Unfortunately, he also succumbed to a number of cleverly timed takedowns, which caused the judges to score the fight unanimously for Tybura.

Midway through the UFC Hamburg main card, heavyweight veteran Stefan Struve collided with Polish contender Marcin Tybura. After a measured start to the first round, Tybura completed a single leg takedown with apparent ease. From there, the Polish heavyweight spent several minutes in top position, landing some nice shots to Struve’s body and head, while staying out of danger in his foe’s wiry guard. Eventually, however, referee Marc Goddard stood the contest up. After a brief period on the feet, during which Struve landed some nice low kicks, Tybura closed out the round with a deftly timed double-leg takedown.

Alexander Volkov picked up the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career today in Rotterdam, scoring a third-round TKO victory over Stefan Struve in the main event of UFC Fight Night 115. Struve looked sharp in the early stages of the fight, landing a variety of strikes including a flying knee which left Volkov cut and bleeding.

With this win, Ngannou burst into the upper half of the UFC heavyweight top-15, where other massive tests now await him. According to a report from MMAJunkie.com, Ngannou’s next test will occur when the UFC returns to beautiful Stockholm, Sweden on May 28. This test will pit the rising contender against Dutch veteran Stefan “The Skyscraper” Struve, who towers above his opposition at a whopping seven feet tall.

This February, Stefan Struve was supposed to have the opportunity to avenge one of the ugliest losses of his career: a crushing 2009 knockout dealt by Junior Dos Santos. The two heavyweights were expected to rematch on February 19 in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Regrettably, Struve was forced out of this bout with a should injury, which means his shot at redemption at Dos Santos will have to wait.
