Paulo Costa trashes Israel Adesanya, says fight with Yoel Romero 'was sh*t'

UFC middleweight contender Paulo Costa says he was ashamed of the UFC 248 main event stinker between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero. Adesanya defeated Romero via a close unanimous decision in what was one of the dullest UFC title fights perhaps of all time. Neither men seemed to fight with any sort of urgency and the fight featured a shocking lack of aggressiveness by two of the most dangerous middleweights on the roster. It was a bizarre fight, and Costa was not a fan of what he saw from his potential next foe.

UFC president Dana White said that featherweight contenders The Korean Zombie and Brian Ortega got into a fight in the audience at UFC 248. The two featherweights have been connected to a matchup in the past and the fight seems like it could happen at some point this year given that both men need fights booked. In a UFC featherweight division that is stacked, both The Korean Zombie and Brian Ortega need to give winning to stay in title contention in a loaded weight class.

The judges’ scorecards for the UFC 248 main event between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero tell the story of a close, but clear decision win for the champ. Not much happened for 25 minutes between Adesanya and Romero. Both men were very timid for the five rounds, with few strikes being thrown. Ultimately, though, the judges felt that Adesanya did more and gave him the decision nod. That being said, no one really knew how they would score it before the official scorecards were read.

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya threw shade at Yoel Romero after their UFC 248 main event, while praising Weili Zhang and Joanna Jedrzejczyk. Adesanya and Romero met in a highly-anticipated main event for the middleweight belt, but the fight turned out to be anything but. Very few strikes were thrown during the 25-minute affair, but ultimately the judges did find the champion to be the more effective fighter and awarded him a unanimous decision victory to retain his title.

Tonight Israel Adesanya headlined UFC 248 in a blockbuster showdown against Yoel Romero. “The Last Stylebender” set out to defend his title for the first time since claiming it from Robert Whittaker at UFC 243. He achieved a statement victory by knocking-out the former champion in the second round. Tonight he intended on defeating “The Soldier of God” in a similar fashion. Tonight Yoel Romero faced Israel Adesanya for the promotions middleweight championship in the main event of UFC 248 in Las Vegas. This wasn’t the first time Romero has fought for a title. He previously fought Robert Whittaker for the 185-pound interim belt. He lost by unanimous decision, but bounced back in his next Octagon appearance. He touched gloves with Luke Rockhold before starching him to achieve the third-round KO victory. Due to his Olympic wrestling background and knock-out power that he has used to finish former champions, the 42-year old is widely regarded the “boogeyman” of the middleweight division.

Tonight at UFC 248, Joanna Jędrzejczyk aimed to reclaim the promotions strawweight championship against reigning title holder Weili Zhang. The Polish star first tasted UFC championship victory in 2015 when she decimated the divisions inaugural champion Carla Esparza. She won the one-sided bout via TKO in the second round to claim the 115-pound crown. She defended her belt five consecutive times, defeating the likes of Jessica Penne, Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. However, her time was up in her sixth title defense, as opponent Rose Namajunas dismantled her with a first round TKO victory at UFC 217. This was the first time Joanna Jędrzejczyk had lost since joining the UFC, but not her last. She lost again to Namajunas by unanimous decision a few months later in their rematch. She also suffered a setback to current flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko by unanimous decision at UFC 231 in 2018. However, in her most recent effort, Joanna reeled off an impressive victory over Michelle Waterson.
