Yoel Romero reacts following loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 248

Tonight Yoel Romero faced Israel Adesanya for the promotions middleweight championship in the main event of UFC 248 in Las Vegas. This wasn’t the first time Romero has fought for a title. He previously fought Robert Whittaker for the 185-pound interim belt. He lost by unanimous decision, but bounced back in his next Octagon appearance. He touched gloves with Luke Rockhold before starching him to achieve the third-round KO victory. Due to his Olympic wrestling background and knock-out power that he has used to finish former champions, the 42-year old is widely regarded the “boogeyman” of the middleweight division.

Tonight at UFC 248, Joanna Jędrzejczyk aimed to reclaim the promotions strawweight championship against reigning title holder Weili Zhang. The Polish star first tasted UFC championship victory in 2015 when she decimated the divisions inaugural champion Carla Esparza. She won the one-sided bout via TKO in the second round to claim the 115-pound crown. She defended her belt five consecutive times, defeating the likes of Jessica Penne, Jessica Andrade and Karolina Kowalkiewicz. However, her time was up in her sixth title defense, as opponent Rose Namajunas dismantled her with a first round TKO victory at UFC 217. This was the first time Joanna Jędrzejczyk had lost since joining the UFC, but not her last. She lost again to Namajunas by unanimous decision a few months later in their rematch. She also suffered a setback to current flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko by unanimous decision at UFC 231 in 2018. However, in her most recent effort, Joanna reeled off an impressive victory over Michelle Waterson.

Romero (13-4 MMA) entered tonight’s UFC 248 event headliner on a two-fight losing streak, this after suffering close decision losses to Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa respectively. Despite his recent setbacks, ‘The Soldier of God’ was still considered to be the scariest ‘out’ in the middleweight division and that is exactly why Adesanya wanted to fight him.

Zhang (20-1 MMA) captured the promotions 115lbs title this past summer, when she needed less than a minute to dispose of former title holder Jessica Andrade.

Fan favorites Donald Cerrone and Alex Oliveira shared a cool moment following the Brazilian Cowboy’s split decision win over Max Griffin at UFC 248. As seen in the video below supplied by UFC.com, Alex crossed paths with Donald on his way out of the Octagon. Cerrone was in attendance as a fan and actually having a beer. The undisputed lightweight champion, Nurmagomedov will put his undefeated record on the line in the main event of UFC 249. The blockbuster event takes place on April 18th 2020 at the Barclays Center in New York. This will be the third time “The Eagle” has defended the 155-pound title and he is expecting it to be, third time lucky. However, he is concerned fans won’t do the same, and will make excuses for “El Cucuy” based on his age. The eagerly anticipated matchup between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson has been in the works for a long time. The lightweight fighters have been previously scheduled to fight a whopping four times. However, both athletes were forced to withdraw from those previously proposed bouts due to medical reasons. Nurmagomedov believes this will be their fifth and final booking.
