This Saturday, the UFC will return to Denver, Colorado with an exciting night of fights. This card, which will air on Fox, will be headlined by a bantamweight number-one-contender fight between Julianna Peña, the first woman to win the Ultimate Fighter, and Valentina Shevchenko, who is the perhaps best striker in the division. The co-main event, meanwhile, will pit fan favorite gunslinger and hometown hero Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone against Jorge Masvidal.
This co-main event will mark Cowboy’s opportunity to move to fantastic 5-0 in the UFC welterweight division. In his first four fights in this 170-pound weight class, he has scored stoppage defeats over Alex Oliveira, Patrick Cote, Rick Story, and most recently, Matt Brown, who he knocked out with a third round head kick.
Head kicks, of course, have become a real theme throughout Cowboy’s incredible career. Since going pro in February of 2006, he has set up a ridiculous five wins with this technique.
In anticipation of his compelling showdown with Masvidal the UFC Espanol Youtube channel has released video of one of the best head-kick knockouts of Cowboy’s career – and arguably one of his best wins period.
This win occurred back in 2014, when he was still competing in the UFC’s perilous lightweight division. His opponent was Brazil’s Adriano Martins who, though relatively unknown at the time, has since established himself as a definite talent to watch in the crowded lightweight division. Though Martins deserves to be commended for accepting a fight with such a high level opponent so early in his UFC career, he ultimately paid the price for agreeing to fight Cowboy, as he was put down by a head kick at 4:40 of the very first round.
