"Humble" Conor McGregor predicts Mayweather fight won't leave first round

Tom Taylor - August 17, 2017

Last night, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor appeared on the Conan O’Brien show to discuss his August 26 boxing match with the undefeated Floyd Mayweather. As always, McGregor was pure confidence and bravado. “I said [I’d win inside] four [rounds], but that’s me being humble,” the champ told Conan O’Brien (h/t MMAFighting.com). “I don’t believe he will even exit the first round, but I’m trying to be humble on national TV. So I say four — inside four.”

McGregor Tells Malignaggi to Shut His Mouth and Get in Line to Fight Him

Justin Golightly - August 16, 2017

Conor McGregor pre-fight conference calls have always been a must-listen, so of course you can’t miss the audio from today’s May/Mac call. In less than two weeks, McGregor will step into the ring and box Floyd Mayweather. However, it’s that other boxer that keeps creeping into the conversation. After ‘knocking down’ Paul Malignaggi in sparring and Dana White leaking the footage out of spite, he’s so pissed off he actually wants to box McGregor for real. Would McGregor be down for that? Ariel Helwani asked the (potentially multi) million dollar question to McGregor on the media call, of course his answer wasn’t surprising.

It would be one of the wildest outcomes to the fight that would surely break the Internet and be a moment never to be forgotten in the history of sports.

Dan Hardy Breaks Down the Stances and Approaches of Mayweather vs. McGregor

Justin Golightly - August 16, 2017

Last week, Dan Hardy got brought into the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fray and he quickly proved his worth breaking down the glove issue. The former UFC welterweight title challenger is back this week, analyzing the vast difference between the type of stance each fighter is going to come out with. We all know how uncanny Mayweather is, but is McGregor’s wide, Karate stance something that could actually frustrate Floyd? It seems silly, but Hardy doubles down that it can. For all the talk of reach/unorthodox, @danhardymma is alone is pointing this out 👇🏻 Full column here https://t.co/LqTEWmlRqd pic.twitter.com/3y5tdGJ620

Boxing referee analyzes Conor McGregor's knockdown of Paulie Malignaggi

Russell Ess - August 16, 2017

The fight that could break all the records and be the richest fight in all of combat sports is less than two weeks away as Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are busy preparing for their mega-money fight. With the news of the Nevada Athletic Commission approving the glove size going down to 8 ounces instead of their standard rule of 10-ounce gloves for the 154-pound bout, more fuel was added to the fire hyping up the bout. Although big news for the fight, perhaps the biggest hype surrounding the fight is coming from the two sparring sessions between Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi.

Dana White claims Showtime did not want their sparring footage of Conor McGregor vs Paulie Malignaggi

Russell Ess - August 16, 2017

If the beef wasn’t enough between Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi, bring in Dana White. White was the one to release a couple short clips of McGregor and Malignaggi’s second sparring match, which included the highly debated knockdown/push down. To follow things up after White posted the clips to his social media, the UFC President went on to say that Malignaggi left the camp “for his health because it was a 12-round, straight ass-whooping.”

Conor McGregor and Coach React to Boxing Floyd Mayweather in 8oz Gloves

Justin Golightly - August 16, 2017

The mission has been accomplished. Floyd Mayweather played the system to get the gloves changed to a smaller size to push the betting lines, since he’s betting on himself. Conor McGregor gets the 8oz gloves to push the lore of his mystical and mutant power. All parties are happy, even McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh. In a statement released to The Mac Life, McGregor celebrates the change as his coach takes to Twitter with an excellent GIF choice. pic.twitter.com/l1TUV175Sm

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor reveal expected fight weights for August 26 showdown

Tom Taylor - August 16, 2017

The contracted weight for Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor‘s August 26 boxing match is 154 pounds. That said, neither man is likely to weigh exactly that much on fight night. Instead, McGregor is sure to be a little over, while Mayweather should tip the scales slightly below the fight’s 154-pound cap. The expected fight weights of both athletes were revealed by their representatives during Wednesday afternoon’s NAC meeting, during which the fight’s referee and judges were announced, and the long-awaited decision on glove size was also made.

BREAKING | Glove Size for Mayweather vs. McGregor Will Be 8oz Gloves

Justin Golightly - August 16, 2017

Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is a circus show with many rides and many moving pieces. The latest merry-go-round is the contested glove size. Originally, the glove size was set at 10oz because all boxing bouts contested at 154lbs wear that size. Floyd Mayweather, whose last six fights were fought wearing the smaller gloves, brought up the exception to box McGregor with 8 gloves on social media. There was a long debate on every aspect of the glove change. However, in the end the rules or previous boxing history didn’t matter. The commissioner of the NAC, even though he was pissed off about feeling this was the center of a ploy to garner sales, finally decided he would allow a one-time use of 8oz gloves. Marnell: I do not like the NSAC being used as a pawn in a social media battle. It pisses me off.

Conor McGregor explains why he's not impressed by Canelo or GGG

Tom Taylor - August 16, 2017

On August 26, UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor will step into the boxing ring with undefeated pugilist Floyd Mayweather in a contest being hailed as “the biggest fight in combat sports history.” In the eyes of many boxing purists, though, it’s more of a freak show. In their eyes, the real super fight occurs on September 16, when Kazakh juggernaut Gennady Golovkin will step through the ropes to battle Mexican destroyer Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. While this latter fight is the one that’s got diehard boxing fans most excited, however, it doesn’t really do much for McGregor. In fact, the Irish star finds both Canelo and ‘GGG’ pretty underwhelming.

Ringside Doctors Caution That Glove Change for Mayweather vs. McGregor Could be Too Dangerous

Justin Golightly - August 15, 2017

Don’t worry guys, Conor McGregor will fight Floyd Mayweather in a couple of weeks and we can put this whole thing to rest. Well, until McGregor decides to give Paul Malignaggi and himself a mutual red panty night in the boxing ring. One of the latest things to swirl around in the chaotic either besides those wild knockdown clip takes, is the possibility that there will be a change in glove size for the May/Mac bout. The parties involved are supposed to meet tomorrow to see if the gloves will be 10oz or reduced to 8oz, but the Association of Ringside physicians caution against it. Eddie Alvarez: Conor McGregor's Time to Win is Within the First 4 Rounds

Justin Golightly - August 15, 2017

Despite his on-again-off-again success in the UFC, Eddie Alvarez is an exceptional fighter. That dude is the only guy to be both a Bellator and UFC lightweight champion. If you go further back, he’s beat the who’s who of anyone in his division from the soil of America to the shores of Japan in smaller promotions. Most of which were former champions in their own right. That’s how he became the king of the underground. If there’s one who knows Conor McGregor, it’s Alvarez. After causing Joey Diaz to have an aneurysm after he beat Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight belt, Alvarez lost it directly to McGregor in a flurry of super Sayain punches. You’d think that would make Eddie salty, but he thinks you’re a fool is you don’t think Conor McGregor can beat Floyd Mayweather.

Heather Hardy Compares Mayweather vs. McGregor to the Yankees Playing the Mets

Justin Golightly - August 15, 2017

Pro wrestlers are trying to fight MMA, fighters are running the ropes in wrestling rings, and everyone seems to want to box. It seems that the new success in combat sports if to be flexible and chase the money wherever you can find it. One of the latest transfers is Heather Hardy, who made her successful Bellator debut against Alice Yauger at Bellator 180. She’s an undefeated boxer who still — and intends to defend — her WBC Female Super Bantamweight and Featherweight titles. So, when she started talking about Conor McGregor boxing Floyd Mayweather on The MMA Hour, it’s a good voice to listen to. That is, in between the chuckles. “If Conor was going to steal Floyd’s wallet, I don’t know if he could get it back on the street.” – Heather Hardy #TheMMAHour

Randy Couture

Randy Couture gives his prediction for Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather

Tom Taylor - August 15, 2017

Back in 2010, former two-division UFC champion Randy Couture was charged with welcoming boxing star James Toney to mixed martial arts. As many expected, the 47-year-old Couture made quick work of his foe, dragging him into unfamiliar territory on the mat, where he locked up an arm-triangle choke for the win. On August 26, we’ll witness a similar spectacle, as UFC megastar Conor McGregor steps into the boxing ring to battle Floyd Mayweather Jr. Speaking on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Couture weighed in on this style-clash. Though he once successfully represented MMA against boxing in the Octagon, he gives McGregor very little chance of doing the same in the boxing ring.
