Back in August, UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor stepped through the ropes of the boxing to battle undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. While the Irishman must be commended for taking on such a decorated legend in his pro boxing debut, his effort to do so ultimately went the way most expected, as he was stopped by a volley of punches in the 10th round. With this boxing match soundly in the rear-view, the perception has been that McGregor’s next fight will be in the UFC’s Octagon. In terms of possible opponents, the frontrunner is definitely Tony Ferguson, though Nate Diaz, Tyron Woodley and Georges St-Pierre are also being options.

To close out the year, Khabib Nurmagomedov is going to fight Edson Barboza at UFC 219. It will be his first UFC appearance since UFC 205 in November of last year. After many failed attempts to fight Tony Ferguson, Nurmagomedov is finally healthy and ready to return with a vengeance. After he takes care of his business with Barboza, the Russian Sambo machine doesn’t want to fight Conor McGregor. He’d rather finally answer the Ferguson question and put it all behind him. Not just for closure, but because he simply doesn’t like the guy. “My opinion, I have to fight for the title, you know. I deserve this. This is not about eight-fights in the UFC, this is about all my career since 2008. My plan is fight Edson Barboza. First of all, make weight. Second, beat this guy. And next year year want to fight Tony Ferguson. This is my plan. Me versus Conor is a good fight too, but first of all I have to finish. We have unfinished business with Tony Ferguson. I really, really want to smash this guys face. This is what I want. Sometimes you just don’t like somebody and it’s OK. Like, I think everywhere, everybody, there’s somebody who don’t like you. You know what I like about Tony Ferguson? I can smash him and the UFC are going to pay me money. UFC are going to pay me money.”

The much-anticipated return of Conor McGregor won’t go down until April or mid-2018, but good things come to those who wait. For a long while, it seemed like it was nearly a done deal that his opponent when he returned back to the Octagon would Nate Diaz, but those talks slowly went quiet and more buzz around Tony Ferguson heated up. No matter who the Irish double-champ stands across the cage from, coach John Kavanagh wants to let everyone know that they’ll be dealing with an even more dangerous version of McGregor on the feet. “To be honest, some of the things we’ve come away with from the Mayweather fight. When would an MMA guy have a chance to take six months just to focus on one aspect of MMA? Never is the answer, they’re always trying to work on everything. But when he does return to the Octagon, his hands are going to be a lot better than what they were. And I’m excited to see that.”

Perennial UFC lightweight contender Al Iaquinta believes “someone should have cold clocked Conor McGregor” at Bellator 187. “The Notorious” had jumped into the cage at Bellator 187 in an attempt to celebrate with teammate Charlie Ward. During the incident McGregor ended up pushing referee Marc Goddard and also slapped a member of the commission.

Conor McGregor has finally issued a real apology for the pandemonium he caused at last weekend’s Bellator 187 card in Dublin. See that apology below: I sincerely apologize for my behavior at last weekends fight event in Dublin. While trying to support a loyal teammate and friend, I let my emotions get the best of me and acted out of line. As a multiple weight UFC champion, executive producer, role model and public figure, I must hold myself to a higher standard. The referee Marc Godard was making a horrendous decision in trying to pick an unconscious fighter up off the floor and force the fight to continue into the second round. Even against the wishes of the said fighters coach. The fight was over. After witnessing my fighter in a fight where the worst happened and the opponent passed away from his injuries on the night, I thought the worst was about to happen again, and I lost it and over reacted. I am sorry to everyone. I sincerely apologize to the Director of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation, Mike Mazzulli, all the officials and staff working the event, Andy Ryan and his fighter John, two stonch ones that put up a great fight every time. That side will always have my respect, and lastly every one of my fans. I love yous all! I’ve always learned from my mistakes and this will be no different.

Charlie Ward and John Redmond’s Bellator 187 fight has gotten the most attention from the event that took place on Friday night. However, it’s due to unfortunate circumstances as UFC superstar Conor McGregor let his emotions get the best of him and stormed the cage and celebrated with Ward who is his teammate, causing a big scene with the referee of the bout and a Bellator staff member. Redmond was knocked out by Ward at the very end of round one and was unfortunately almost trampled in the middle of all the mayhem that McGregor brought into the Bellator cage. The Irish fighter spoke with TMZ about the incident and commented on McGregor’s behavior.

Everyone has weighed-in on Conor McGregor’s behavior at the Bellator 187 card in Dublin. He stormed the cage as his teammate Charlie Ward was finishing John Redmond, then all hell broke loose. Since then, he has released an apology and the lead regulator that night has put out a statement on his actions. Finally, referee Marc Goddard sat down and wrote a lengthy post on his official Facebook detailing everything about what transpired, including some interesting details not apparent on first viewing. One of the keys being that it was unknown whether the fight was over or not. “The punch and action that followed naturally resulted in a surge of crowd noise, one that was so significant I had already made my determination that I could not audibly hear the bell sound for the end of the round, I had made my decision to step in with the belief that bell had indeed been sounded, when in actual fact it had not. This is a critical fact to the ensuing proceedings. At this point on my step in, and you will clearly see from the video replay that I only step across and do not wave the fight off. Charlie Ward, understandably so had reeled off in celebration thinking that I had indeed ended the contest and not as I had actually done, called time on what I believed to be the end of the round. Two distinctly different endings.”

Last weekend, Bellator touched down in the MMA hotbed of Dublin, Ireland with Bellator 187. While the night included some memorable action, by far the biggest headline to emerge from it stemmed from UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor‘s rushing the cage during teammate Charlie Ward’s fight with John Redmond. Believing his teammate had won by stoppage, McGregor hurdled the fence and celebrated with his foe. When referee Marc Goddard attempted to eject McGregor from the cage, the Irish star went haywire, shoving Goddard and even slapping a commissioner.

On Friday, the UFC lightweight champion brought a lot of eyes on the Bellator 187 event that took place in Dublin, Ireland. Following McGregor’s teammate, Charlie Ward knocking out opponent John Redmond, McGregor scaled the Bellator cage and jumped in to celebrate Ward’s win.

Retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya, who owns Golden Boy Promotions and promotes stars like Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, has had plenty to say about UFC lightweight champ Conor McGregor of late. De La Hoya’s comments on McGregor reached a crescendo in the buildup to McGregor’s blockbuster boxing debut opposite Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now, it appears De La Hoya actually wants to fight McGregor. The 44-year-old has apparently been training, in secret, with the goal of stepping into the ring with the Irishman.

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor brought some of his “Notorious” publicity to Bellator on Friday during the Bellator 187 event that took place in Dublin, Ireland. McGregor’s teammate Charlie Ward knocked out opponent John Redmond at the last seconds of round one and “The Notorious” scaled the cage and jumped in to celebrate Ward’s win. Marc Goddard, who already had some history with McGregor was the referee for the Ward vs. Redmond bout had a word with McGregor who then erupted and shoved and yelled at Goddard in the cage. McGregor was also seen slapping another official while sitting on top of the cage as the official tried to get him off.

UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has always had plenty to say about undisputed lightweight champ Conor McGregor. In the wake of McGregor’s chaotic brush with a referee and commissioner at last Friday’s Bellator 187 event in Ireland, that trend continued. Over the weekend, Ferguson directed yet another jab at McGregor, once again referring to the Irish star as “McNuggets,” and using the hashtag “#LookingForAWayOut.”

It’s everywhere by now in big bold letters. Conor McGregor storms into the Bellator cage, not once, but twice. He shoves around Marc Goddard and slaps a Bellator official like he’s trying to do his best Nate Diaz impression. What you may haven’t seen yet, is video directly after the chaos. Conor McGregor galloped outside with his friends and teammates, still reeling from Charle Ward’s victory and the pandemonium he caused. Immediately, he carries on about ‘rat’ referee Marc Goddard. “I was still trying to say, ‘Keep going,’ and it’s that same referee [Marc Goddard] who I lost me head with him [at UFC Gdansk]. I said, ‘It’s you, you rat.’ He nearly f-cking crapped his jocks. Oh, it was a beautiful shot [from Charlie Ward]. [John Redmond]’s out cold, we all knew he was out cold and he’s still trying to call it. ‘Oh no, he wasn’t the fight’s not over.’ I said, ‘It’s you, you rat. Last night there were some great fights at Bellator 187, but it was a UFC fighter who stole the show. Conor McGregor stormed the cage as his Straight Blast Gym teammate Charlie Ward finished John Redmond at the Dublin card and started a pandemonium not seen since the infamous Strikeforce brawl. He shoved referee Marc Goddard and even slapped an official in the face. President of the Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports (ABC) Mike Mazzulli was regulating the event and has released an official statement about the incident.  “While the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation (MTDAR) was regulating Bellator 187 in Dublin, Ireland, on November 10th, 2017, the following events took place during the Ward vs Redmond bout. Mr. Conor McGregor who was a spectator at the time, disrupted the event by scaling the cage prior to the conclusion of the bout. Mr. McGregor’s conduct jeopardized the health and safety of the bout participants by delaying necessary medical attention to the fighters that were injured during the round.”

There has been a lot of talk with the return of Georges St-Pierre. With his historic win over Michael Bisping at UFC 217, GSP became the fourth fighter in history to become a two-weight UFC world champion. St-Pierre says that he is contractually obligated to fight interim middleweight champion Robert Whittaker next, if he decides to continue competing. However, many fans and pundits are all clamoring over a matchup between GSP and UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
