After Bellator 187 incident, Tony Ferguson suggests Conor McGregor is “looking for a way out”

UFC interim lightweight champion Tony Ferguson has always had plenty to say about undisputed lightweight champ Conor McGregor. In the wake of McGregor’s chaotic brush with a referee and commissioner at last Friday’s Bellator 187 event in Ireland, that trend continued.

Over the weekend, Ferguson directed yet another jab at McGregor, once again referring to the Irish star as “McNuggets,” and using the hashtag “#LookingForAWayOut.”

While it’s hard to say for sure, it seems that Tony Ferguson is insinuating that, by acting in such a way that almost guarantees punishment, McGregor is “looking for a way out” of their potential title unifying showdown. If McGregor is suspended for his skirmish with the officials at Bellator 187, after all, it’ll force his potential scrap with Ferguson to the back burner – and possibly even force the UFC to find another opponent for Ferguson.

Tony Ferguson last fought in October, when he picked up a submission win over the highly regarded Kevin Lee, capturing the interim lightweight crown in the process. With this win, he extended his streak to 10-straight – a run that also includes triumphs over names like Danny Castillo, Abel Trujillo, Gleison Tibau, Josh Thomson, Edson Barboza, Lando Vannata, and Rafael dos Anjos.

McGregor, meanwhile, last competed in boxing, not MMA, coming up short in a blockbuster showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. In his most recent MMA bout, he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to capture the UFC lightweight crown.

While nothing is certain just yet, UFC President Dana White has assured a title unifier is what’s next for McGregor and Ferguson, while many members of McGregor’s circle have also said this is the bout that should come next.
