Heavyweight knockout artists Matt Mitrione and Sergei Kharitonov collided in the headliner of tonight’s Bellator 215 event in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Matt Mitrione (13-6 MMA) entered tonight’s contest looking to rebound, this after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Bader at Bellator 207.

Prior to his loss to “Darth”, Mitrione had strung together four wins in a row over opponents Carl Seumanutafa, Oli Thompson, Fedor Emelianenko and Roy Nelson.

As for Sergei Kharitonov (28-6 MMA), “The Russian Mercenary” was also last seen in action at October’s Bellator 207 event, where he scored a first round knockout victory over Roy Nelson.

Kharitonov entered tonight’s Bellator 215 main event on a five-fight winning streak.

Unfortunately for fight fans, tonight’s Bellator 215 headliner lasted only seconds, this after Matt Mitrione struck Sergei Kharitonov with an accidental groin strike.

The illegal strike was delivered with some serious force, enough to prevent “The Russian Mercenary” from being able to continue.

Check out how the MMA Community reacted to the unfortunate ending of tonight’s Bellator 215 main event below.

That was definitely one of the worst groin shots in mixed martial arts history. Hopefully Sergei Kharitonov will make a full recovery.
