UFC Vegas 20 card down to 10 fights after losing Alex Oliveira vs. Ramazan Kuramagomedov

Adam Martin - February 26, 2021

Saturday’s UFC Vegas 20 card is down to just 10 fights now after losing a welterweight bout between Alex Oliveira and Ramazan Kuramagomedov. Oliveira vs. Kuramagomedov was itself a replacement bout, as the Russian filled in on just four days’ notice after Randy Brown pulled out of the fight at the start of fight week. Oliveira wanted to remain on the card and the UFC found him a very tough opponent in the UFC newcomer Kuramagomedov, but unfortunately, the fight was just not meant to be. It was scratched on weigh-ins day after Kuramagomedov was not cleared to fight due to an illness. With no time left to find a replacement opponent, Oliveira was also removed from the card. It’s unknown if the UFC plans on rescheduling this bout (h/t MMAFighting.com). We do not have news if either fighter was paid their show money.

The Russian will now make his UFC debut this Saturday against Oliveira, with MMAjunkie.com first reporting the news.

Alex Oliveira plans on calling out Anthony Pettis after win at UFC 254

Adam Martin - October 21, 2020

UFC welterweight Alex Oliveira plans on calling out Anthony Pettis following a win at this weekend’s UFC 254 card over Shavkat Rakhmonov. Oliveira takes on Rakhmonov in a very intriguing matchup at 170lbs at this weekend’s UFC Fight Island event. “Cowboy” is currently riding a two-fight win streak and a win over Rakhmonov — who he is favored to defeat at the sportsbooks — would give Oliveira a three-fight win streak. That could be enough to earn him an opponent in the top-15.

Alex Oliveira calls out Khamzat Chimaev: "I'll fight you"

Adam Martin - October 6, 2020

UFC welterweight Alex Oliveira called out Khamzat Chimaev, with the Brazilian saying that he will fight the Swede if no one else will. Chimaev is one of the hottest fighters in the sport right now. Since making his UFC debut on Fight Island in July, Chimaev has picked up wins over John Phillips, Rhys McKee, and Gerald Meerschaert, the latter a 17-second KO win. Chimaev was set to fight Demian Maia in his next fight, but it appears that the UFC is looking at other options for Chimaev including fights against No. 5 ranked Stephen Thompson and No. 3 Leon Edwards.

UFC announces multiple fights for the first quarter of 2020

Harry Kettle - December 20, 2019

The UFC has announced multiple fights that will be taking place in the first few months of 2020. Next year is set to be a big one for the promotion and with 2019 coming to an end, it really does seem like this could be one of those years that will be up there with 2016 in terms of success. Nobody can know that for sure, of course, but the UFC does appear to be building some momentum across many of their top divisions – both men’s and women’s.

Tom Taylor - August 20, 2018

On September 22, at UFC Sao Paulo, Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira will attempt to take another big step up the welterweight rankings when he takes on long-time contender Neil Magny. "Cowboy" Oliveira says Carlos Condit went to sleep before tapping in UFC Glendale scrap

Tom Taylor - April 16, 2018

Over the weekend, in the co-main event of the UFC’s return to Glendale, Arizona, former UFC interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit returned to the cage opposite Brazil’s Alex “Cowboy” Oliveira. Cowboy took the fight on just a few weeks’ notice, stepping in to replace the injured Matt Brown. Despite the brevity of his training camp, Cowboy ultimately came out on top in this fight, surviving a few scares to submit Condit with a guillotine choke in the second round. Yet the fight-ending submission did not come easy, as Oliveira had to keep the pressure on for what seemed like eons before Condit finally tapped.

With Matt Brown out, Carlos Condit gets new opponent for UFC Glendale

Tom Taylor - April 4, 2018

If things had gone according to the initial plan, former UFC interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit would have battled Matt Brown in the co-main event of the UFC’s April 14 trip to Glendale, AZ. Regrettably, Brown was forced out of the fight with an ACL tear, leaving Condit without an opponent. “Wish it was all April Fools but I did tear my ACL over the weekend,” Brown said in a statement on Twitter. “I hope [Carlos Condit] gets an opponent and doesn’t have to lose out on the opportunity. We’ll do it for sure when I’m back.”
